To be sick of 'nostalgia'?

I'm listening to radio one and all day they've been trying to push the 00s onto us with 'noughty words'

They're always doing it and I'm sick of it! Can't we just live in today??

It's like they've run out of ideas

Plus it's awkward to listen to tbh, the presenters don't seem to like eachother, why are there so many?

Actually, I have many complaints about radio 1 now that i think about it 😄😄

I know common sense is to just turn over 😪😄 but its not like it's a tv channel, it's a faff to listen to anything else

I'm definitely nostalgic for my youth, the 80s and early 90s! The noughties were yesterday. Some friends were listening to Radio 2 when I visited the other day and that was beyond terrible so I can't imagine what Radio 1 is like. I just ask my smart speaker to change channel so no hassle (usually to Absolute 80s these days).

Mysterian · 03/02/2025 17:04

There was a big craze of programmes like "Remember The 70s" with various celebrities, mostly Stuart Maconie, going on about them. They were fun. Nostalgia was so much better back then.

@mumofoneAlonebutokay yes the radio is fantastic if a single parent, just having adults chatting in the background is soothing for the soul I think.

I had a gift voucher that needed spending and bought an Alexa at Christmas, I don't regret it at all. I linked my Spotify and have it on all the time.

I started listening to the Cabin Pressure show and that's funny. Or Lucy Worsleys podcasts.

Edited

100%, often that's the only conversation I really get as dd is autistic at 5 and still pre verbal and I'm on my own (I'm okay with it now though)

She does like playing with me bless her, but i need to feel that conversation about mundane randomness and celeb news and aibu topics 🤭😄, as well as current chart music

Dd has an Alexa and I've got the Google speaker - there isn't a day they don't get used! x

😄😄 you are right but I can't let go!

Listening to radio 2 makes me feel old, as much as I love rylan

All calm and dull 😒

They need a radio 1 with current songs aimed at the over 30s 🤭

That's how radio one was until Mathew Bannister had a massive shake up in 1993. Until then they played a broad spectrum of music from all decades, predominantly the current pop hits and the greatest hits from the past. He dumped all the djs that had been there for years and brought in a new "youff" focus...basically making the shite plastic pop bubble you hear today.

@mumofoneAlonebutokay were you the poster contemplating the fireworks at NYE?

👋 If so, glad the two of you are getting on well.

@HPandthelastwish OMG! Your mum sounds like an absolute legend 😀.

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 03/02/2025 17:19

@thisfilmisboring123 I'm with you there. I'm going to an afternoon early 90's rave soon! I'm loving all these afternoon tea dances for us middle aged that are happening everywhere at the moment

I am!!! 😊👋 thank you 🥰

I changed my name as I got a new email, and plus, I don't feel so bad about being alone anymore ☺️

I took the advice! I took her to the merton fireworks for bonfire night that November instead and then we had the fireworks on nye from our bed with shloer in champagne glasses and endless sweets, which she was very happy about 🤭

you're using technology from 200 years ago and complaining they aren't playing anything recent? you're lucky it's only 25 years out of date.

I have mostly graduated FROM radio 2 now, 🤣 only still there for Rylan and Liza Tarbuck. It's Absolute 80s and Greatest Hits Radio for me now. When I have to go over to Boom Radio I shall know my slide towards the grave is almost complete. 😭

I have also started occasionally listening to old radio shows on mixcloud. I will never not miss Wake Up To Wogan.

Oh wow, I didn't know that

I get the need to bring in young listeners but it is very plastic bubble and seems to be aimed at teenage boys 😒 - Scott Mills show used to have a lot of weird noises they would laugh at which was awful

but now I want him back

Do young people even listen to the radio?! My youngest kids (late teens and early twenties) think I am a dinosaur for doing so. From what I can work out it's pretty much like I might have regarded someone who listed to a gramaphone when I was their age.

6Music?

A bit boring, no lively hosts but alright music

If they had jack saunders on radio 6 I'd listen

I dunno, maybe just during the school runs is how they draw them in

😭

Radio one does play recent stuff as well but they're too focused on the 00s and also the hosts aren't adult enough
