German kitchens

Our kitchen is over 25 years old and kind of falling apart in places, so desperately needs to be replaced. I am however overwhelmed with choices and can't make a decision. A couple of my colleagues recently replaced their kitchens. Both went with the German manufacturers. They shared some photos with me, and I think I quite like the style but not sure about everything else since I myself have never had a German kitchen. Just wondering if anyone here has one and how you feel about it: cost vs quality etc?

I've got a Häcker kitchen and I love it. We've had it for about eight years now and it honestly still looks and feels brand new.

Bubblebuttress · 03/02/2025 10:48

Where did you buy from @ItGhoul .. direct?

apricitykomorebi · 04/02/2025 12:16

@ItGhoul Haven't heard of that one but thank you. Will have to look into it 😊

My mum had a Poggenpohl kitchen, veey happy and blissfully problem-free for 40-odd years until they sold the house. Obviously very much high end pricewise but they got it discounted as an exhibition piece.

I put a Hacker kitchen in my previous house. The quality was excellent - then we moved…

I would only spend the £££ again if I was pretty sure it was my long term home. That said, I saw a picture on FB posted by current owner, and she still has ‘my’ kitchen, 15 + years on, and was happy enough for it to be seen 😀

No, we went to a local kitchen design place and it was one of the suppliers they used. I can't actually remember now if we even knew it was Hacker before it was delivered and installed - I have a feeling we just chose the units we most liked in the showroom and that was what they turned out to be. It was definitely a good choice though.

apricitykomorebi · 04/02/2025 12:28

@Dearg Thank you for sharing. I was worried for a while that the style may get out of date quite quickly but this gives me reassurance that it will be fine for at least 15 years 😊

@MugPlate I am delighted to hear this as we have their branch near where I live!

A visitor managed to dent the bin drawer panel 5 years after installation and they sent a replacement for free.

We’ve got a Hacker one. Over 7 years old now and looks like new. I still
love it. Our kitchen supplier swears by German kitchens.

nahthatsnotforme · 04/02/2025 14:04

We had a very expensive Rationale which had to be replaced after 9 years.

Just me and DH at home.. solid units but the doors were rubbish and it basically fell apart.

£30k wasted IMO

Pottedpalm · 04/02/2025 14:06

We looked st German kitchens as the quality is so good. However, we bought from DIY kitchens ( don’t let the name put you off! Couldn’t be happier with the result and you save £££

I am a little confused. Do you mean a German kitchen, as in, kitchen that is designed and made in Germany, or a German-style kitchen, where everything, including appliances, is built in, or that the appliances are German? I live in Germany, and so I am curious as to what exactly a German kitchen is 😊

I meant kitchens made by the German manufacturers. They usually also differ in style from those made by the British manufacturers although perhaps the latter also do make something similar but I've not noticed. 😊

I am glad you dropped by this thread: I'd love to know what is popular in Germany! 😊

Ooh, I am a bad person to ask what is popular with trends. What is normal, though, is to have all white-goods built in. Eg: a cupboard door on the fridge and dishwasher, which means that the entire kitchen looks uniform. Maybe that is normal in the UK, too?

Anyway, I would love to see some pics of your kitchens, German or otherwise, if anyone has any!

curious79 · 04/02/2025 20:41

I have one. Arrived exactly when they said it would to be installed. Good quality - no problems with it at all. It was a lower cost brand - don’t remember the name. Was quoted double for some of the big band German kitchens

edwinbear · 04/02/2025 20:58

We have a Nolte kitchen. Had it 10 years now and it still looks brand new, despite being white gloss. We’ve replaced a couple of doors over the years where they’ve got chipped and never had an issue getting an exact replacement. It was expensive, but well
worth it.

stclair · 04/02/2025 21:04

We’ve got an 18 year old one still going strong. Expensive but they do last, at the risk of getting bored with it before it needs replacing!
