Given my 1 year old 3+ years vitamins by accident!

Shamelessly posting in AIBU for traffic as I swear by this stuff and I've just realised that the 3 year+ is in the same packaging and I picked up a bottle and I've been giving it to my 21 month old and now I'm panicking I've overdosed her on vitamins?!

Since she was 1 year I've given her the minimum dose in her drink once a day, I feel like she really benefits from it (seems to get less colds etc than her friends of same age).

I went to Sainsbury's yesterday and Tesco and Asda today looking for it and can only find 3+ years in the same packaging? I've attached photo of what I used to get.

Would I have done her harm? Do I need to tell Dr?

Just to add she's not great with fruit or veg, she likes bananas, apples, watermelon, peas and sweetcorn and refuses anything else so I thought it would be good to give her a vitamin/immune system boost.

God almighty. Is she your first child ? Get a grip.

A week 😞

Don't worry about that. No harm done.
Talk to your HV if you need to but it's is a non issue.

elm26 · 02/02/2025 22:08

@notatinydancer please don't tell me to get a grip. Yes she's my first child. I know that some vitamins are dangerous to overdose on. Your unhelpful and mean reply is really not warranted.

Tbf this was my reaction too…

elm26 · 02/02/2025 22:08

Thanks @MumChp! Haven't seen HV since she was 10 weeks old so can't ask them. Will try and find the 1 year+ online instead.

It's only vitamin C. She'll pee out the excess

Thanks for your helpful reply @WaffleandSnark!

It’s ok OP! I had the same panic because I give my one year old the same and then realised the bottle says 3+ and panicked thinking I bought the wrong one. Soon as I saw your thread I knew it would be about this.

It’s exactly the same as before, they’ve just changed the packaging to target their international market. I compared ingredients with the old bottle and this one and it was the same.

My only concern is whether it was ever ok for a one year old in the first place…

She'll just poo out any excess (which is what has been happening with them anyway, assuming there aren't any glaring deficiencies in her diet).

elm26 · 02/02/2025 22:11

Thanks so much @PotaytoPotahhto that's really helpful

You don't have to talk to HV. Only if you want assurance from a professional. A pharmacist or GP can assure youthe same that your child has not been harmed.
No harm done to your child. Don't worry about it.

In a&e to get stitches on DC once, and overheard the family in the bay next to us who had brought their 8 year old to a&e for eating 6 gummy vitamins. And it was a full family, both parents and they'd dragged siblings along too.

elm26 · 02/02/2025 22:17

No need for any more snarky comments! I've been reassured, that's all I asked for! I haven't rushed her to A&E, anyone would think I have by some of these replies.

Thanks to all of you who actually understood my concern and reassured me!

@DoggoQuestions and this is relevant how? I'm not in A&E with her, it hadn't crossed my mind to take her to an emergency department but obviously those of you with more than one child can look down on us with our firsts and some of the mistakes/worries we make/have 🙄

Holland and Barrett do the 1 year one and Savers (which are cheaper)

dementedpixie · 02/02/2025 22:36

Its advised to supplement vitamins A,C and D up until age 5. Do you give her other vitamins @elm26 ?

Anon501178 · 02/02/2025 22:37

I don't think it's unreasonable that you are concerned OP! Some vitamins you do have to be careful with how much you give.

If its any consolation, I gave my DD aged 3 some of the 6 plus calpol the other day 😩 Got medical advice but they said not to worry unless she was sick as an issue was unlikely, and luckily she was fine.

InvisibilityCloakActivated · 02/02/2025 22:38

Glad you are feeling reassured @elm26 . Worry is a horrible feeling. We all go into panic mode about one thing or another from time to time. Different things fluster different people. I'm sure the posters who can't see what you are worrying about will have previously worked themselves up about things that wouldn't worry you in the slightest.

BigSilly · 02/02/2025 23:14

It's vitamin c for the love of god! The supplements say is contains 32mg and a quick Google says that over 400 mg per day May be toxic in a 1 year old.
