To help my cleaner get a better job?

Does anyone know of any Uk charities or DWP organisations that can help cleaners get work where there is scope for career progression?
My cleaner has a qualification in her home country and is always talking about going back into it here. But she’s been talking about it for 6 months now and I’m starting to suspect she’s facing obstacles and doesn’t know where to get support.

(aibu for traffic. Thanks)

Have you tried actually having a conversation with her? Don't assume she is facing challenges. She may just be procrastinating or is quite happy with her cleaning job for now.
Without knowing her specific circumstances and challenges, it's very difficult to give suggestions of organisations to contact.

You probably need to give more detail, or how can anyone help?

JC03745 · 02/02/2025 23:31

It clearly depends what her qualification is in her own country, whether she'd need more training to work in that professional here and more importantly whether she really wants to do that? It might require re-training or at least some studies where she isn't working and earning, which might be a major concern. Maybe the role has a language requirement she is concerned about. Without further details, its hard to advise really.

I’ll talk to her.
and report back

I appreciate that you're trying to help but be prepared for the fact that she might not actually want your help and could consider you to be quite patronising.

comoatoupeira · 03/02/2025 18:42

I consider that it is my duty to offer to help someone whose work I benefit from with fewer resources than me

What’s patronising about that? It’s just society
