People who don’t bother removing personal information etc when fly tipping deserve the fine

Yesterday I was walking down a road and spotted a couple of Amazon boxes - both stuffed with rubbish. Still had address on both boxes.

i hate fly tipping. It makes the areas messy, attracts vermin and shows how lazy people are.

Using an app called Love Clean Streets- sent a report with photos. Love Clean Streets you can report things like fallen trees, dead animals as well as fly tipping

if people spend a few seconds on removing address, they will be less likely to be caught. So they deserve fines

they deserve the fine anyway ! They are selfish idiots .

flapjackfairy · 01/02/2025 08:13

in fact their punishment should be a whole year of litter picking to make up for it. Plus a massive fine. . A fine lone isn't enough.

Treacletreacle · 01/02/2025 08:17

I have often taken items back to the house with the address on them. Humans are vile.

taxguru · 01/02/2025 08:17

More likely they paid someone to clear the rubbish who wasn’t registered for trade waste and has dumped it rather than pay the tip costs. People don’t seem to know to ask for the trade waste transport authorisation certificate to prove the rubbish firm is legitimate.

ScanningQRCode · 01/02/2025 08:19

Yes agree mostly. But there were a couple of cases locally to me where people paid for waste to be taken away for them and the dodgy scammers then flytipped. Our community facebook page did a much better job at hunting the scammers down than the police ever would have.

Sinkintotheswamp · 01/02/2025 08:21

Yanbu.
But you're better off emailing the council direct with photos and all the info.
I've caught a couple of people with addresses.

Sherararara · 01/02/2025 08:24

They deserve the fine either way obviously.
Though reporting on lovecleansteets is
no guarantee they will pursue them and prosecute. I would call the council direct and also take a bunch of photos time stamped yourself now if you genuinely want to pursue this.

AgnesX · 01/02/2025 08:24

More of this can only be a good thing. This country is filthy. The amount of rubbish littering streets, the sides of roads and railway lines is appalling.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/02/2025 08:24

Everyone who fly tips deserves the fine.

Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie · 01/02/2025 08:25

@ScanningQRCode The onus is on the person having the waste collected to check the register that the company removing the waste is valid and licensed.

ohtowinthelottery · 01/02/2025 08:38

I see frequent posts on my local Facebook pages asking for someone with a van to do a tip run (with numerous responses) or someone advertising they're a scrap man doing the rounds on X day.
In an idle moment the other day, I checked the Local Authority licensing page and only 1 of these people actually holds a licence. We now have strict controls on our local recycling centres (booking system) so I'd say it's inevitable that this rubbish is collected and dumped illegally.
But if you're daft enough to pay someone off Facebook without checking their credentials, then yes, you deserve to be fined.

I don't really think that's a fair thing to expect someone to do

Whyherewego · 01/02/2025 08:44

someone repeatedly dumped a load of rubbish just by my house, I looked through the contents one day and found an envelope addressed to the next street. I gathered it up and dumped it on their doorstep with the addressstuck to the top. never happened again!

KittenPause · 01/02/2025 08:44

That said now I know I can look up their license online I would definitely do that

BathSpider · 01/02/2025 08:51

fly tipping gives me the outrage, plus neighbours helping themselves to your wheelie bins.

On day, just before Christmas, I went to put some rubbish in the bin and found it full. I looked through the contents and found tens of Christmas cards addressed to the teacher who lived two doors away. I promptly removed the two huge bin bags and dropped them on her doorstep.

CF knew I had a very young baby in nappies etc. the selfish entitlement was unbelievable.

Then you should rightly expect to pay the fine for when the cowboy you engaged fly tips your stuff! It's pretty basic due diligence. Don't you check reviews when you buy things? Don't you check other "tradesmen" are legitimate, i.e. electricians, gas fitters, etc? There has to be some element of people taking responsibility for themselves and not just blindly assuming that "Craig" from Facebook is genuine! No wonder so many people get ripped off if they can't be arsed to do the simplest and most basic of checking.

Plump82 · 01/02/2025 08:57

I have a neighbour who consistently fly tips, right next to empty wheelie bins. It drives me bonkers. We have a gunnel where all the wheelie bins are kept and they dump the bags wherever. I've contacted the council repeatedly and I'm told they'll investigate and that I can't provide photos as if it goes to court and they use my photos then I'll be asked to give evidence. So they tell me to leave them which I used to do until the foxes had a field day with them. I know it's the same neighbour as like your OP mentioned they don't bother removing their address from half the stuff. Now it's easier for me just to put them in the bin myself. Id considered leaving them on their doorstep but I was worried id by done for fly tipping!!
We also have a problem with people using the wrong bins. We have about 10 cardboard bins and they get filled with general rubbish. I've asked the council to just remove them but they won't!
God, it's annoying!!!!

Beck30 · 01/02/2025 09:01

I'd stick the details up on the local Facebook group. Then pick it up, take it round to theirs and empty it all in their garden. Maybe with a few bits stuck through their letterbox.

I think this is what I would want to do. In practice I'm not sure if I would go to the trouble. Depends how far they have travelled to dump their crap. You're right about humans!

During one of the storms last year, an Amazon cardboard envelope rested by my car. On picking it up, I noticed the address label was still attached. I wrote on the envelope "I am back because you didn't bother to remove your address" and shoved it through their letterbox.

Ha people who are so scummy they fly tip and so thick they leave their address on should be blasted.into space. What's the point of them.

AKAanothername · 01/02/2025 09:14

When caught, the fines should be much higher. We had a local case and the fine was only £300, so pretty much the same as hiring a skip. It's no deterrent if the likely fine is cheaper than doing the right thing.

dizzydizzydizzy · 01/02/2025 09:23

Friend of mine got a £1000 for fly tipping. She drove her recycling to a local place where there are lots of recycling bins. She got all her recycling out of the car and put it on the pavement next to the bin. Then she started taking it from the pavement and putting it in the bins. When she had nearly finished, her phone rang and she took the call. She then forgot that she hadn't put all the rubbish in the bin and drove off. Unfortunately one of the cardboard boxes had her name and address on it......

1984Winston · 01/02/2025 09:26

My BIL and SIL were investigated for fly tipping after they gave some things away on Facebook and the person then dumped it (and it was in an amazon box with their name on) they were so annoyed as it wasn't even rubbish and why get it if they didn't even want it? They didn't get fined as they could prove they gave it away on Facebook.
