To think it could still mean that he is married?

My friend has a crush on a co-worker. He wears a golden ring on the pinky finger of his left hand. It's not a signet ring, just a regular gold band.

Friend says it means he is likely not married. She wants to ask him for coffee. I personally think that he might be and either wears it on that finger because he likes it better or because it got too tight. He's slim, though, so can't imagine him having lost a lot of weight. Other option is that it is a signet ring, but the thicker part is turned inwards , toward the palm, for some reason?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

YABU - not married
YANBU - likely married

Has she ever actually had a conversation with this bloke, or is she just gazing from afar, trying to second-guess his jewellery?

I mean, DH and I are married and neither of us wears a wedding ring.

Edenmum2 · 01/02/2025 00:11

I mean.....ask him?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 01/02/2025 00:36

Hmm

I don't trust these men so I'm voting married

I mean, he might just like jewellery though 🤭🤭

PizzaPunk · 01/02/2025 00:41

If she's close enough to ask him out for coffee, she's close enough to shoehorn a question about whether he's single or not into a conversation?

No-one can answer your YABU/YANBU as for all we know, it could've been his grandparent's or parent's wedding ring.

I've been wearing my late mother's engagement ring for nearly 23 years.

If this isn't what social media is for then what is?

My husband doesn't wear his ring because in his line of work it could result in a degloving injury.

You never know if you don't ask!

Twonewcats · 01/02/2025 00:49

Omg she'd feel less awkward about asking him out for coffee than if he's married? 😳

Also a pinky ring would put me off completely - especially if he's wearing it there for fashion reasons

ExtraOnions · 01/02/2025 09:10

Pinky rings remind me of Del Boy …

PassAggJumper · 01/02/2025 09:21

Ring is immaterial. Asking him would be a better way. Of course he might still lie if he thinks he could get his end away, but a ring on a pinky finger is tacky and unattractive irrelevant.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/02/2025 09:24

I could never have a relationship with someone who wears a ring like that. But that useful interjection aside, has she never spoken to this man?

happinessischocolate · 01/02/2025 09:50

Maybe before asking him out for a coffee she's asks him what he did at the weekend. People tend to mention their partners in conversation in my experience 🤷‍♀️

That's a really good idea, I will tell her.

He works in a different department. She sees him every day, but has just greeted him so far, no proper conversation.
