Kids on scooter in pub!

Just been out for a pub meal with dh and ds, nice pub we've been to many times. It's not fancy but the food is always hot and tasty.
There were so many young kids in there this evening that it was mayhem!! Screaming, running around alomst tripping people up - it was an accident waiting to happen. The kids were not all in the same group but none of the parents were keeping an eye on them or trying to keep them under control.
Then they got out a scooter and were scooting around the pub ................

What is wrong with people???
I'm sure these parents would have been quick to complain if one of their kids had ended up covered in spilt food or drink.

Shit parents are everywhere and they're getting shitter.

XenoBitch · 31/01/2025 21:28

It has always been a problem. Some parents assume that "child friendly" pubs mean their kids can run riot.

Leafy74 · 31/01/2025 21:35

The more I see kids like thid, the more I like the child catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Does anybody have his number?

Snowmanscarf · 31/01/2025 21:35

Why didn’t anyone say something?

They won't, because I bet the parents would be aggressive as hell.

pizzaHeart · 31/01/2025 21:39

On a scooter inside the pub???WTF???

TheFairyCaravan · 31/01/2025 21:39

Some parents just don’t know how, or want to, parent.

I’ve seen very little children on scooters near to the edge of the swimming pool at a hotel in Cape Verde. And another time I saw pre teens scooting through the duty free shop at the airport in Fuerteventura. I was agog.

The manager did eventually go and have a "word" I think he was on a break when they were scooting around. The other staff were very young and I can understand them not wanting to say anything.

Dammit. Thought it was going to be teenagers on a moped. What a pub that would be!

Whammyyammy · 31/01/2025 22:46

Feral parents raise feral kids.

The other week in a pub I wondered what the strange noise on the speakers was. It sounded like youtube. Then I realised that's what it was. From a cluster of families a few tables over and their fucking tablets.

Unfortunately "child friendly" is our only option as we have u18s and it's infuriating to not infrequently have our nights out as a family ruined by feral hellbeasts other families.

I've known quieter soft plays.

We did the years of sacrifice of not going anywhere fancier than McDonalds when the DCs weren't patient enough to wait around for table service. We still pick carefully to our DCs' needs (autistic DS needs relatively quick service and reliable formats) and then some lazy arsed imbecile cares only for drinking their way through the bar and doesn't mind their offsprings' disruptive behaviour.
We left the moment we finished eating. They were too fresh in their latest round of drinks to go anywhere in a hurry.

About a year ago we had one mob family with children charging around and chucking crisp packets and serviettes while shrieking. It's not the first time I've seen children run into staff in there.

I think we're at the point where in the style of "no smoking" signs, places need signs such as "no speakers" to establish some basic boundaries about civilised behaviour. It's becoming endemic.

There's always the possibility that people that stupid and anti-social will be abusive if challenged.

Either way, they ruin everybody else's evening.

This.

It's a disgrace.

Exactly, people who behave/allow behaviour like this certainly aren't going to be told anything by the staff or other customers and will generally kick off and cause a scene and ruin everyone else's night even more. Though when someone impacts in their enjoyment there's hell to pay.

Downside to the 'customer is always right' culture - anyone parting with money calls the shots!

Some adults should actually parent their kids as this is ridiculous
