Did anyone actually get any answers after seeing NHS recurring miscarriage clinic?

Had my 10th misscarriage last week and they have booked me in for my first appointment with recurring misscarriage clinic next week did anyone get any answers? Also if you managed to get pregnant and stay pregnant any tips?

Hi so sorry to hear you have been through so many losses. They never get easier. I've been looking through threads for similar information, I've just had my 3rd misscarriage and just been referred to the NHS recurrent misscarriage clinic. I just wondered if you'd be willing to share how your appointment went and if they were able to support you or give you any answers? Any information would really help, I feel totally in the dark about what to expect. Thank you

I'm so sorry for your losses. I haven't been through as many - I had one still birth and 2 MMC before my referral.

I turned out to be unexpectedly pregnancy at my first appointment so we didn't have tests with them but my doctor ran a load of pre tests which the clinic would have done that first appointment - I had a very pro helping doctor at the time who went out of her way to look at things while waiting for my referral.
Those tests ruled out alot of issues which was good (and bad at the same time as it gave no reason) It gave the miscarriage clinic a head start on putting my on progesterone straight away.

The biggest thing I was told was not to pin hopes on finding a reason or answers as to why. I never got a reason. The tests showed nothing wrong. No elevated issues or lacking in hormones etc. It was the hardest thing not knowing what had caused the MMCs as we couldn't proactively address that.
What I will say is the clinic threw everything at it though. As they didn't know a cause, they took the path of everything until proven that is not the issue. I credit the progesterone and the clinics monitoring for having a successful pregnancy.

@SJM1988 just out of interest, did they do any kind of genetic testing for you? I'm so glad to hear you had a positive outcome in the end ❤️

No, but it was part of the plan if I hadn't had a successful pregnancy that time. I'm not sure if it was offered because my still birth was a potentially genetic issue (we opted not to test our daughter at the time for any genetic issues post birth)

Plan was - blood testing and hormonal cycle testing - review and try medical interventions (progesterone, aspirin, etc). If these still did not result in a successful pregnancy, look at genetic testing.

@SJM1988 thank you so much for responding. I just really don't know what to expect. My appointment isn't until July, so trying to do as much research before hand.

No problem. I remember feeling so alone when I was going through it (it was the tail end of lockdown). I always want to help others when I see a post for help or advise. The wait is really hard but it will come!

I'd recommend writing down your history. I found the first call / appointment overwhelming going over my history. Things like dates, type of miscarriage, what happened, any doctor involvement. We also talked about things like family history, diet and exercise lifestyle, anything I did to support pregnancy (e.g. what supplements I was taking, was I still drinking, any homeopathic remedies I was using). Even if you don't discuss it all, it would be beneficial just for you to make sure you didn't forget anything in the moment.

Also write down any questions you have before the appointment. If they aren't answered during the appointment you can then ask at the end.

@SJM1988 that's great advice thank you. And that's exactly how it feels, lonely and terrifying. Really reassuring to hear you had a successful outcome, it gives me hope ❤️ thank you again. I hope your answers have also helped the OP. X
