Migraine + nausea

Hi, I have had a migraine for the past week and nausea. Does anyone have any advice? I have a doctors appointment next week. I have had a neurological check/ scan so I know its nothing sinister. I'd rather not take medication...

Also, this might be tmi so sorry in advance, but I've found that giving myself an orgasm as soon as I notice the first migraine symptoms really reduces the later pain.

Some googling seems to show that I'm not the only one. www.livescience.com/27642-sex-relieves-migraine-pain.html

Hi @ToysRus56 I don't have a video sadly but basically using thumbs to massage all through back of neck and right up under skull.

So my "management programme" is :

  • nightly yoga. Normally Yoga With Adriene. She has a video for migraines, or I do the one called pranayama for the spine, or my favourite is Total Body Deep Stretch (it's 45mins though). Also Yoga For Text Neck.
  • I also then lie on my mat after and massage thru back of neck with thumbs.
  • if I feel tension I will sometimes use Ibuleve gel on the neck.
  • I have a regular bedtime, around 10.45.
  • I also avoid sleeping in. I find too much sleep can actually trigger.
  • I sleep on my back and have a firm pillow.
  • I don't really drink and avoid all UPFs, although being fair, that is less to do with migraines and more just being healthy.
  • about once a month, I see my physio for upper back and neck sports massage. He actually has me lie down on my back and goes behind me, almost like a hairdresser, and very very gently "lifts" the skull to release tension (no cracking).

That is a lot but I used to be on painkillers/ meds and now not.

Also, I have not tried this, but my physio also recommended a product called Neck Saviour which is a stretching aid. He said some of those type of things were dodgy but that one was good.

Your migraines might have nothing to do with muscular tension but if you can, I'd find a physio who does sports massage and ask them to have a look. Mine is £45 for 45 mins and it's so worth it.

Got my first migraine at 14 making chocolate cake at school. Thought I was having a brain haemorrhage. I have to avoid chocolate, artificial food colourings, oranges, aged mouldy cheeses, beetroot, lack of or too much sleep, stress, lack of food, flashing lights, very noisy places.

I get very similar migraines. The aura lasts a long time and then the headache is not too bad but then I’m left with a week or two of nausea/ weird head sensations/ tiredness and words jumping around on screens. After many MANY years of coping the best thing I have found is asprin (a large dose) swallowed down with an electrolyte drink- those tablets you put in water. I use SIS ones. It cuts down the nausea for me by about 70 % . I would also recommend celtic salt- it has so many minerals in.I use it instead of regular salt. It’s cut down my frequency massively.
