Is 34 too young for heart issues?

CareerChange24 · 31/01/2025 00:13

So I was admitted a few years ago for a high heart rate and put onto ivabradine. Which cured my migraines but never lowered my heart rate. I get really breathless and fatigued

the last two weeks I’ve had chest pain. Never had chest pain in my life. Stabbing back and neck pain. I’ve felt really unwell today. Just had a lovely bath. And just been violently sick. I don’t know what to do. I’m 34 but something seems off

I think I'd be going straight to A&E, especially with your history.

I was diagnosed with inappropriate sinus tachycardia so I guess a heart condition but never had any further investigations. I don’t know if Id feel an idiot being my age in a&e but I really do feel dreadful

Did you have any scans of your heart?

You can be born with heart issues , if you think somethings not right best to get it seen too reguardless of age

No none. Sounds silly but it’s the being sick that’s making me worry there is something weird going on as I’ve had a lovely day. Lovely bath. No tummy upset or anything. And then violently sick where I’ve even wet myself.

Call 999

nocoolnamesleft · 31/01/2025 00:22

A&E now. Don't mess about with your heart.

CoI: 1)I'm a doctor, 2)I thought there was no way I had a heart problem in my late 30s, but unfortunately my heart hadn't got the memo.

CareerChange24 · 31/01/2025 00:22

I sound confusing. I’ve had a lovely day as in I’m off and so relaxed all day. But felt terribly unwell. Chest pain and being sick isn’t lovely

OP posts:
BMW6 · 31/01/2025 00:22

I don't want to alarm you but you must realise that there is no lower age limit for heart (or any other) problems?

People are born with problems

Go to A & E or ring 111

EBearhug · 31/01/2025 00:22

Chest pain, stabbing back and neck pain - you need urgent medical attention. I hope you're calling 999.

Creepybookworm · 31/01/2025 00:23

There are heart conditions which are unrelated to age or fitness e.g cardiomyopathy. I would go and be checked out.

111 would say call 999. So either call 999 (preferably), or get yourself to A&E. Do not waste time calling 111.

You are a doctor and you wouldn’t think I’m over dramatic. Thank you for the advice. I’m going to take it. It’s the last place I want to go but needs mist.
I hope you have got yourself sorted and it wasn’t too serious x

Definitely call 999 the paramedics can give you a full assessment. Nausea and chest pain should not be ignored!

Floralnomad · 31/01/2025 00:26

Hope it’s nothing serious @CareerChange24 but definitely go in now .

alexdgr8 · 31/01/2025 00:27

Are you alone?
If so call an uber straight to A E.
if anyone can drive you there right now
Do that.
Or call 999. Now
Do not delay.
Your condition is affecting your ability to judge and act.
Listen to the doc above.
999.

I live a five minute drive to the local hospital so could call a family member. Just one last thing so I don’t look foolish. Very scared of that. On my watch my heart rate is 90 so not very high. Apple Watches tend to be quite accurate too

nocoolnamesleft · 31/01/2025 00:37

It's still a bit high. But more to the point you are having chest pain and vomiting. It might be your heart. It might be pneumonia. It might be a pulmonary embolism. It might be nothing serious. But it's really important that you are seen promptly by someone who can rule out the things that could kill you.

Sarah2891 · 31/01/2025 00:38

Better to be alive and feel foolish than the alternative. Please get checked at A&E.

PinkArt · 31/01/2025 01:23

Do you want random strangers on the internet to guess at this or do you want actual doctors to properly diagnose you? You have chest pains and a history of heart issues - get to a&e as soon as possible.
I had a pulmonary embolism in my early 30s and the doctor started the call with how near to a hospital are you. There are some things the NHS will never waste time with and just like with my lungs, heart issues are one of them. Get to the experts now.

Fraaances · 31/01/2025 01:27

Darling age means nothing. There are babies born with end stage heart failure. Go to A&E. Don’t dick around. Be your own advocate and demand answers. Chest pains should always be investigated. (I nearly died at 52 from surprise diagnosis of very severe dilated cardiomyopathy. Still coming to terms with it tbh, and feel “too young” as well.). Doctors would rather you look foolish for them than look glamorous for the coroner.

CareerChange24 · 31/01/2025 01:29

Thanks for all the messages guys. Heading there now x
