UC AET amount and self employment ?

AETthreshold · 30/01/2025 16:49

The couple AET is £1437, but if one partner is employed and earns that or over the other partner has no work requirement and yet if one partner earns that or over but is self employed it won’t count at all ?

So for a couple where one is SE the other partner would need to find work plus the SE person would maybe need a second job but then when they calculate UC those SE earnings are then counted ?? Is that correct ? (Bit confused)
How can SE earnings be disregarded for the AET yet counted if a couple then have employed earnings ?

For self employment it's the minimum income floor that is relevant. The minimum income floor is set in the claimant commitment.

It may be different from the aet, but that is the relevant threshold.

What is your minimum income floor?

generally you have a certain time to reach the threshold as they know you can't go from zero to ££££ pr month it is normally NMW equivalent after expenses

this page explains it
https://www.gov.uk/self-employment-and-universal-credit

basically to be considered gainfully self employed you need to be earning NMW as profit for an appropiate number of hours

And if you are transferring from tax credits then your work coach will be able to explain
