I know unfortunately it's seen as 'women's work' and not valued.. have recently been offered a job in domiciliary care and declined. I was told I could choose my hours and asked to fill out an availability form.

I was then told that I'd need to commit to 16 hours both Saturday and Sunday every other weekend, or one 16 hour day a weekend.
Gave them an availability window of around 44 hours, only to be told I'd struggle to meet full-time hours with my availability!

So essentially, they'd like their carers to be free all day every day yet the most they could offer me contracted was 12 hours per week.
Pennies above minimum wage, it's a shame really as I'd love to help care for people, but I'm not willing to be out for 16 hours a day yet paid for 10.

Paid per call like many of these companies, fine if you don't have gaps but if your client is in hospital etc. Then you won't be paid unless it's a last-minute cancellation.
I feel like they feed off the financial insecurity of the care staff, they know they'll be wanting to work every hour possible to make a full-time wage up so they allow this to happen.
