Some children just get unwell more often and it’s not a cause for concern?

Dd (10) is always unwell. When she was at nursery she didn’t seem to ‘build up an immune system’ as I was told she would . She caught everything was really unwell and has just carried on.

She seems to catch everything and get things really severely it’s never a mild case or anything. Never just a cold she will
always get a fever.

At ages 3, 5 and 8 she was evaluated and had bloods and some other tests and nothing was wrong. I think it’s just how she is.
She eats well (has a lot of allergies but eats what she can and is a healthy weight) sleeps enough gets exercise and has vitamins etc.

School attendance is an issue and despite giving proof at all stages that this is not due to an underlying cause we are now being accused of being overprotective and having too low a threshold to keep her at home. We literally follow the nhs guide ?? We did have to keep her off for longer with scarlet fever and hfm as she was really unwell so we didn’t follow the nhs guidance for that but for everything else we do.

Does anyone else have a child who just gets everything? I don’t want to put dd through more bloods etc again it seems unfair on her to keep doing that when the specialist said it’s just how she is and no concerns ?

It is called childhood illnesses and some kids get much more than others. I have been there, much better now, close to the 50s

DS1 didn't get everything, but he was very prone to chest infections. He had a lot of time of for them and the school hassled me about it every time, even though I used to get a note from the GP. They spent more time chasing me up about it than they did helping him keep up with his schoolwork.

I agree. Same as adults really. My kids (fingers crossed) are really robust so far. I have no idea why – they are healthy weights and active, but their diet can be a bit iffy and I’ve never given them vitamins. Me and my husband are rarely ill either, but I have a close friend (who really takes care of her health) who is constantly bogged down with infections, sick bugs and viruses. It’s hard to see a rhyme or reason.
