Janes20 · 29/01/2025 15:38

The antibiotics prescribed will treat both conditions maybe. You should check with them.

Janes20 · 29/01/2025 15:42

Looks like you have both conditions . You need to ring and ask.

  • Trichomonas
  • Vaginalis Infection

This is a STD I think.

BV is not a STD.

Did you go for a STD screen?

Check with the clinician prescribing....

SneakyLilNameChange · 29/01/2025 16:03

The treatment for both is the same medication and it’s very common to have BV as a result of having TV so that is fine.
Has someone rung and explained the diagnosis? If you have trichomonas they should have explained it’s an STI, your partner also needs testing and treating along with any other partners in past 6 months.

Im sorry that’s really poor. I’d get in touch with whoever you took the test with (clinic, GP etc) and get a proper explanation of the results. It makes a big difference between the two in terms of management and impact on your life!

So can I just have bv but the medication says Trichomoniasis ?

It is possible for someone to have only BV, but your notes say you have both TV and BV. However, if you haven't been swabbed and tested, and the diagnosis was made only on a description of symptoms, neither they nor we can know for sure. If you're not sexually active, it's probably fair to assume it's only BV, not both. If you are sexually active, then your partner should also be tested.

The treatment for both is antibiotics, which is what you have been prescribed, so to the prescriber, they probably aren't too bothered if it's one or the other or both; you're getting treated whichever.

I agree with contacting whoever prescribed it to explain it, and also ask about management with reference to sexual partners.

Thank you, I’ve been with the same partner for 15 years, I’ve also be getting recurring thrush aswell that seems to go away with treatment.

There's surely no way of knowing if you have trichomonas unless swabbed? So they're just going by your symptoms which could be either TV or BV?
