Best treatment for thrush

Hi, I'm female, been diagnosed with thrush (in the intimate area). The nurse I spoke to over the phone said to speak to pharmacist, but I can't get to pharmacy until Saturday. There are a few treatment options available online, but not sure what to choose. Could anyone with experience of this share some advice please? Is normal cream enough? Or should I opt for tablet and pessaries? So confused...

I'm sensitive to Canestan cream so always get a single Fluconazole tablet (oral), It's much cheaper online even with postage, you'll pay around a tenner in Boots.

Yes the oral tablet. You can buy them on Amazon

Whichever one you go for make sure any sexual partner you have also treats themselves otherwise you’ll just pass it between you. I find the Fluconazole 150mg tablet best.

The single tablet is the best.

Fluconazole oral tablet, buy the generic version, much cheaper than canesten. I have a few in stock as tend to get thrush every month. Sometimes I take a second tablet if, say, no improvement after day 4 of taking tablet 1. Good luck OP

Pretty much what the other posters said.

some women find the cream enough (canesten ie clotrimazole), others need the fluconazole tablet. Treat your partner too (you’ll read online that thrush is not passed to partners but mine didn’t get treated until I treated my partner).

With age and changing hormones (and a changed in diet - I crave sugar more) I develop thrush more frequently and I find it harder to get rid of. I took fluconazole weekly for 6 months; I’m just saying this to say that it’s safe to take.

Live yoghurt works best for me! Wonderfully soothing straight from the fridge too 😉

I had never ever had it. Then had it 9 times in a year! It just kept coming back every month or 6weeks. It was awful.

Personally I found the canestan pessary was quite gd but it's expensive. I started buying several Fluconazole tablets at a time from an online pharmacy. The cream done nothing for me at all.

Thanks all! I'm glad I've asked! Partner does not have symptoms but I will get cream and tablets for him just in case.
Strangely the symptoms are not always present. Symptoms seem at its worst just after the period to halfway into the cycle. I should've rung doctors before but kept putting off until now.
I use daily liners (I guess they are nor great for the lady area), but since I had my 2 giant babies I can't trust myself to sneeze without consequences

If it's internal, clotrimazole cream in an applicator was the best treatment I ever had.

I also understand why you might not be keen or able to do this but I coupled it up with going knickerless and tightless or trouserless as much as possible. Mine was probably at least partly caused by some very hot and airless uni digs I think. I was permanently boiling. I used to strip off below the waist as much as possible in my room til it went away- could you wear a maxi skirt or dress or lose PJ type trousers with nothing under them for a couple of hours in the evening?

Tampon coated with lavendar oil (antibacterial) and then a layer of coconut oil (antibacterial & antifungal & safe for use on mucus membranes) - cleared symptoms for good after 1-2 applications

On reflection, the coconut oil on its own would probably do the trick as well...

For me, the most effective option has been Diflucan (Fluconazole). It’s an antifungal tablet that works from the inside, so usually one capsule is enough to clear things up quite quickly. Creams can help with external irritation, but personally I’ve found the tablet gives much more reliable relief.

Since it’s often a lot cheaper online, I usually order it here 👉 healway.co.uk/diflucan-fluconazole. I always get my orders fast and I’ve been really happy with the results.

From my own experience, Diflucan has been the best solution! 😘
