LHA versus the true cost of rent?

girlfriend44 · 28/01/2025 15:50

Who sets the LHA?
I think it's going to be frozen again?
With rents going up how do people afford the shortfall?🤒

How can people find all this money?
I though money you got was for food and bills and you had to have that by law to live on.
How do you take your rent out of that as well.
Affordable housing is such a major problem.

It's set by looking at the median price of rents at was at 30%

Rents are a huge factor in the economy tanking. If you have to pay higher rents you have less to spend on frivolity.

We need lower rents - but without reducing demand massively you're going to have to build on every bit of space you can find.

We own our house but when we were renting 4 years ago our rent for a standard 3 bed house was £650. This was private renting and we had been there for 12 years with small increases so were probably paying slightly under market rate. LHA in our area is £800 for a 3 bed according to the council website. Our old house has just gone up for rent at £1795!!!!!! the only difference is the kitchen has been replaced. nothing fancy looks like fairly cheap basic option. It is unbelievable. no way we could afford that. Our mortgage on a 4 bed which in my opinion is much nicer is £900!

How do people ,afford the shortfall though.
LHA isn't realistic is it?

Housing is broken in this country.

Have a look on rightmove for the "affordability" schemes which keep the housing pyramid going..
If you can only afford to buy 25% of a house you can't afford to buy a house.

Partly crazy lending (which got us into trouble previously) and partly demand.
