Breastmilk soap

Call this market research - I’ve made some soap with over supply for breastmilk and seen amazing results for my kids skin. I’ve kept each bar below 5 natural ingredients and there’s lots of combinations that can be done to cater to different needs eg. Moisture, relaxation etc.

the benefits are vast undeniable and it’s so effective, but is it weird to make and sell breastmilk products? Think soap, moisturiser etc.

is anyone aware of any restrictions on selling human milk products?

I’d appreciate any thoughts - this is my first thread but I’ve seen others and feel the need to say please keep any comments factual and/or on topic, thanks!

I think you would find it difficult to get a vast or suitable market for it tbh. No idea on the legalities though. Personally would never buy it or use it.

Macrodatarefiner · 28/01/2025 10:19

You're probably better selling it to weird bodybuilders unadulterated if it's money you're looking for.

There are far too many formula fed babies to be wasting something so precious in soap imo.

UnaOfStormhold · 28/01/2025 10:23

The regulations around selling any cosmetic product are really stringent and require testing and quality control of ingredient sourcing that I cannot imagine would be feasible for breast milk.

TMGM · 28/01/2025 10:55

I can’t see many other people legitimately wanting to use someone else’s breast milk on their body, I certainly wouldn’t. Then again there’s a market for almost anything these days, just be prepared to potentially get a specific type of clientele…

Use it for your own kids. It's precious and shouldn't be commodified (if that's the word I want).

Some things are sacred and shouldn't be bartered for money.

luckylavender · 28/01/2025 10:59

I would not buy it. It's a little gross I think

BobbyPeruLikeTheCountry · 28/01/2025 11:01

It's no more gross than buying soap made with other animals' milk I suppose, but people are weird about this kind of thing, so I doubt it will have much of a market.

Fawn87 · 28/01/2025 11:02

I can't see many people buying into this. Even if it's sterile and clean I think it's gross using something from a stranger's body fluids. You might have some buying from a small very niche market but whether that's enough to make a profit I don't know.

MaterCogitaVera · 29/01/2025 00:04

I imagine that you would get some fetishy blokes wanting to buy it, so consider how you'd feel about that.

How about a diy breast milk soap making kit? All the moulds and other ingredients supplied, just add your own breast milk! Could be a gift for a new/expectant mum.

RabbitsEatPancakes · 29/01/2025 10:50

I use goat milk soap but I don't think I'd use human milk soap.

Perhaps you could offer a service to make it for other people if they send you the milk? Might be good for babies with sensitive skin as the milk would be taylored to them anyway.

I'd imagine there's huge amounts of testing though to make it legal.

I thought this too. I think this is a good idea and probably has more scope.

OP, Etsy is a good place to sell these things. You could also do classes for evenings teaching people how to do it!
