Unprofessional tradesperson, WWYD?

If you had a dispute with a tradesperson, and after only a handful of message exchanges the tradesperson became extremely unprofessional, making unfounded personal accusations, attempting to intimidate with third parties and threatening police action against you for further contact, then sending a small, unagreed refund that they deem acceptable (equivalent to 1/5th of what it was going to cost to have it remedied), what would you do?

Moreso from the perspective of the significant unprofessionalism rather than the monetary side...

Would you continue to pursue the case?
Would you go to the effort of leaving negative reviews?
Or would you just walk away?

I'd do what it took to get my money back eg small claims if the amount was big enough.

This is only one side of the story...
Customers can be unreasonable and unpleasant too, not saying you are but it's obviously a possibility that they may feel this way...
It's someone's livelihood at the end of the day (they may have a young family to support, etc...not that this excuses bad behaviour) and you could be done for defamation and escalate the situation if you leave negative reviews and it could go on and on...
I'd probably just walk away and be glad that at least you got some money back...
They could also black list you against other local tradespeople so if you want anything else doing I'd be mindful of that too!

I took the view that one bloke learned his lesson when he tried to take some of our spare roof tiles without asking. I asked him calmly to put them back and advised him never to do that again, if he wanted to keep his business going. I pointed out that if we were one of our neighbours (didn’t specify which one) he would have been in a worse position as they are both police officers.

He seemed very shocked and apologised profusely. I decided not to leave any kind of review, and decided that if the trusted trades or whatever it’s called asked for one I would simply refuse to provide one.

A colleague pointed out that he probably wouldn’t have done it if it had been DH at home. Maybe that’s true - but obviously I don’t have any proof of that.

So in our case I got my tiles back so I was no worse off. You’ll need to consider whether it’s worth the cost of pursuing it. As he seems rude and threatening, I probably would take it further.

Being unprofessional isn't a crime and I think when customers are out of order then they lose the right to be dealt with professionally. Not saying that's you, but so many people think they can talk to tradespeople however they please and expect them never to respond accordingly.

You haven't given nearly enough details on what's happened for anyone to advise you on the situation.
