To ask for advice on dermaplaning rash - please help!

I had dermaplaning done on Thursday afternoon. So 3 days ago now. I’ve broken out (but I wouldn’t describe these as acne spots or pimples at all) in red bumps all over my face. Tried to show pics here of each cheek.

Thursday after the treatment was fine, went to bed with that nice glow (I’ve had dermaplaning a few times before but not for a few months and always had no issue). This rash appeared when I woke up on Friday. I assumed an allergic reaction to something she’d used (had it done professionally by a reputable beautician who I have used before so I don’t doubt her hygiene protocols etc at all) so I have been taking daily antihistamines since then and haven’t worn make up or used any actives on my face.

I’m hoping this is just an adverse reaction to maybe over exfoliating as I hadn’t dermaplaned for a while, but I really just want to know if anyone has any tips on what to do or advice as to how long this may take to go away? It feels as if I have these little bumps absolutely everywhere - my entire face and under my chin / on my neck. so everywhere that was treated basically.

I do think the redness has gone down a bit and I know the photos may not look that bad, but the texture of my face is suddenly awful and I had such clear smooth skin before - the bumps are absolutely everywhere and I daren’t wear make up or anything. I only wanted to get rid of hair but I shan’t be doing it again! I am mortified and really upset! Any advice is welcome - thanks so much in advance…

That looks really sore. I guess your skin has reacted to what seems a harsh procedure to me. Hopefully it will fade in time, just use extra gentle skin care or water.

I'd treat it like any shaving rash and put something with salycilic acid on it.

While I have tried dermaplaning for the hell of it, it seems like a total scam to now tell us that the peach fuzz on our faces is undesirable, too. I quite like the blurring effect of mine anyway.

Dermaplaning is just shaving with added exfoliation so of course it irritates and is a massive con because we can be twee and pretend it's not just shaving. Just get a Gillette mens razor next time.

UpUpUpU · 26/01/2025 21:41

Genuine question. What is the difference between dermaplaning and shaving? Is there any reason you cannot not just use a normal razor to remove facial peach fuzz?

The fuzz on your face helps form a barrier between bacteria and your pores. Removing it will leave the skin vulnerable to spots, and the process of shaving/dermaplaning will cause abrasions.

Don’t put salicylic acid or anything like that on it, it’s already inflamed. Just wash with warm water and use a gentle moisturiser.

Salycilic acid is anti inflammatory. Have a Google. It's in most creams for razor bumps. It's related to aspirin.

I’m aware of what salicylic acid is

I’m also aware it shouldn’t be used on irritated, red or broken skin.

Thanks all. Yeah, I have regrets and I certainly won’t be having it done again! It was more just whether there’s anything I can use to calm it down or speed up the healing process. I have a salicylic acid toner but I’d been avoiding it, in fact since Friday have only used a gentle cleanser once a day and a sensitive moisturiser in the hopes of calming it down. I think the redness is calming down but my entire face and part of my neck are so rough / bumpy, I’m panicking I’ve ruined my otherwise relatively good skin but fingers crossed this goes away soon 😣

Could aloe vera gel help calm it down perhaps?

Beetlebumz · 27/01/2025 21:27

Maybe use gentle baby products for a week or two
