What to do about neighbourly dispute. Horrible situation.

Over the course of a year by neighbour has started a systematic harassment campaign by constant malicious referrals to social care and the council.
This all started due to they're ongoing building work impacted me and my child significantly.
The neighbour is now making my life a misery. They've harassed my letting agents and landlord. They've harassed me. I reported them to the police but it was NFA..my latest report was to the council for noise disturbances (unsubstantiated).
They've reported to social care that I abuse my child as she's prone to explosive outbursts and is under assessment (they know all this).
I cannot relax in my own home and she's bullying me indirectly by making all of these referrals. I just wait for the next one.
I'm not confrontational at all.
I'm not sure the police will help but I feel harassed and intimidated.
What can I do? Moving isn't an option.
Sorry to post in albu. I feel so defeated.

Can you keep making referrals back?

Send a cease and desist letter from a lawyer type thing (might cost money).

Is there another neighbour who could try and mitigate?

YourHappyJadeEagle · 26/01/2025 18:24

I’d find out the cost of a solicitors letter. Try phoning local solicitors or CAB might be able to advise.

EverythingButTheGirl0 · 26/01/2025 23:10

I think you can send a cease and desist letter without a solicitor can't you?

Report her to the police this is a targeted campaign of malicious allegations that's actually a crime

Is it though?.. I was told the police wouldn't do anything

It's harassment, who told you that it wasn't

The police. They said it was a civil issue and I can raise a civil case for defamation of character etc.

OP, sorry to hear this.

Presumably you're keeping detailed records of every incident to build a case. If the police haven't been interested so far it's possible that could change with enough evidence.

Isittimeformynapyet · 26/01/2025 23:40

What was the initial problem with the work on their property?

My neighbours on both sides had work done and, realistically, we just had to patiently suck it up for the duration. Luckily no ND issues here, but I'm not sure they'd have had to make reasonable adjustments for us if there were.

JohnofWessex · 26/01/2025 23:49

Like a lot of these things if The Police decide to take action then they can find the grounds for doing so.

The trick is to get them to do something

Soonenough · 26/01/2025 23:51

If you are renting then why can't you move ? Seems the best option really as it will be ongoing.

healthybychristmas · 27/01/2025 00:13

Does your landlord have other properties? Could you speak to him or her and ask them if they have anywhere else you can move into?
