Hi any DIYER or plumber to help here, my bathroom fitter said he would charge extra £200 to fit freestanding bath

This one £3000 install new bathroom fittings ( I’m buying all units)

£3200, extra £200 if I choose this one

I want to understand if he is right. He says that the freestanding is more difficult to install etc which I don’t know how true this is?
Note the position of bath will be the same for both so no major pipe movement with the freestanding.
can you help me to understand his point.

Does it really matter if he is "right"?
He is quoting you a price, you accept it or you don't.
Do you think £3k is a fair price for the fit?

  • if so, why would the fitter be trying to rip you off the extra £200?
  • if not, look around for other quotes.

Your floor may need to be reinforced with the freestanding and plumbing needs to be jazzed up as it will be exposed. Other than that, I wouldn't think so as there is no attaching the bath, sealing etc. Perhaps you need to check with him exactly what he is planning to do and go from there.

I’ve had installed freestanding baths in this house and our last house, and yes, installation is more complex, hence more expensive. Not being a plumber, I can’t explain the details, but this sounds normal to me.
