To not want to sell to them anymore?

I’m selling a buggy and have put it online for a reasonable price. Someone has shown interest but asked if I could lower it. Back and forth, and I end up taking almost £50 off the price. Only then do they start asking all of the questions about the specifications, weight, handlebars, age. Google it! I don’t know why but it has annoyed me that they are only asking this now.

They sound annoying. Luckily being annoying isn’t a protected characteristic so you don’t have to sell to them if you don’t want to.

sometimesmovingforwards · 26/01/2025 08:26

It’s up to you.

VolcanoJapan · 26/01/2025 08:26

Don't sell them it if you don't want to

ColinOfficeTrolley · 26/01/2025 08:27

Id just say I don't want to sell it to you. Sorry.

TheTimeHasComeMyLittleFriendsToTalkOfOtherThings · 26/01/2025 08:29

I think I'd send them the link to the specs on the brand website without comment.

MJconfessions · 26/01/2025 08:29

Just tell them it’s no longer available.

if you sell things online, you need to get better at weeding out people like this to save your sanity

IglesiasPiggl · 26/01/2025 08:29

It's so annoying when people getting a bargain second hand start expecting customer service like a shop. I would just send them a link to a shop listing and say "All the details are on here. Let me know by tomorrow if you still want it, otherwise I will move on to the next person in line".

LauritaEvita · 26/01/2025 08:30

Just say a relative has now asked for it. It’s no big deal. I’d quite enjoy jibbing them off.

PurpleLamb · 26/01/2025 08:30

Just say you have another potential buyer and looking to pay more and willing to collect today. Ask if they still want it and need to collect. You'll know by their reply if they're serious.

Chuchoter · 26/01/2025 08:31

Block them. They will cause you hassle.

Hufflemuff · 26/01/2025 08:31

It's your choice, but be understanding that they are probably new parents and they might be a bit clueless about things. Maybe they are asking for a conversation about it more than anything.

I'd probably search for a review video of the pram and send them that. Then say "hope this helps awnser your questions, I've had a lot of messages and interest on this so its hard to reply to everyone to clarify every detail. Let me know if you want to arrange collection"

ServantsGonnaServe · 26/01/2025 08:31

I've pulled out for a lot less!

Flatandhappy · 26/01/2025 08:32

Just tell them they are too much hard work and you are not selling it to them. Relist it for the price you wanted. You know if these people rock up they will try and get further discount assuming that by that stage you will just want rid. Screw them.

nellythe · 26/01/2025 08:33

More hassle than it’s worth. They’ll undoubtedly be in touch in 9 weeks to tell you one of the wheels is sticking and they want a refund.

Octopies · 26/01/2025 08:33

I would just ignore them and wait for a more straightforward buyer to come along.

ServantsGonnaServe · 26/01/2025 08:34

IME as soon as someone annoys you thats your gut telling you they will be a pita.

Every time I've ignored it, the buyer has gone on to piss menoff to such am extent I don't go through woth the sale.

Inevitably the conversation starts without manners. Followed by either endless questions or haggling. Then a request for free delivery (even though the advert says in capitals BUYER COLLECTS).

Basically it's an endless pushing of boundaries because they have no respect

PokerFriedDips · 26/01/2025 08:37

This is normal for online selling. Half the time the haggler doesn't want the item themselves but know they can sell it on for the original higher price and pocket the profit. It is fine to tell them that you no longer want to deal with them.

ServantsGonnaServe · 26/01/2025 08:37

I've just remembered one bloke haggling with me, when I stuck to my price saying it had just been listed and others were being sold in worse condition for less so i wouldn't reduce, he basically told me I was being unfair because he thought it was a fair price.

My response was that he could think what he wanted about the profe but I was under bo obligation to sell at a lower price and he could buy someone else's at thenprice ge was prepared to pay. Block.

A vinted story: again, I listed at a low price (£3!) for a mint condition cosmetic. Someone offered £2. Then £2.20. Then £2.30. I blocked because frankly, it was listed much lower than other vinted equivalents for a high demand item amd they were quibbling over 20p each time. It sold later that day for full price. Knew the 20p haggled would be a nightmare.

PMBiscut · 26/01/2025 08:38

Sounds like they’re selling it on.

ChampagneLassie · 26/01/2025 09:06

This would wind me up too. I did a car boot sale once and people haggling wound me up trying to screw you down over an extra 20p. I decided I prefer to give to charity than get into the wrangling. I’d probably send them a link to the specifications. But I hope you’ve still got the item listed so someone else could buy at price you want. Put link on listings too

Ffutv · 26/01/2025 09:09

Yeah they probably are selling it on. I didn’t really want to sell it so cheaply in the first place but thought it would be a quick sale.
Now they’re asking me about the handle bar length etc I can’t be bothered. Surely you would search the specs yourself before you buy a buggy. They should find the videos and the websites without asking me. I think they wanted to lock in a price before they decided if they actually wanted it.

If you have room to store it for a while and you think your price is fair, stick to your guns. I was selling a really nice, great condition full travel set and had people trying to beat me down saying I would never sell it at that price etc. I wasn't prepared to let someone have it for such a low price so didn't drop it. I put it back on sale two weeks later and found the right buyer at my original price.

Life’s too short. I agree with pp: tell them you have had a buyer offer full price, or simply say it’s no longer available, then ignore them.
