What does this hospital ward mean?

Doesn’t really make a difference but just curious!

I was clearing out some old paperwork in my house and came across some old discharge letters from hospital. I’ve had to stay in hospital on several separate occasions for my heart so it was from this. I always thought I stayed on a cardiac ward but it says coronary care unit and from a very quick google it seems to be the ward beside it was cardiology but I was staying in the specific coronary care ward

it was several occasions so doesnt seem to just be because they didn’t have a bed in cardiology

sounds a stupid question but is coronary care just a cardiology ward too?! I always thought coronary meant blood vessels but I didn’t have any issues like that, my issue was a heart arythmia and more of an electrical issue

just curious and wondered if anyone knew the difference! I always just assumed I stayed on a cardiac ward

They're both wards for heart issues aren't they?

At the hospital I used to work at, coronary care was for the more unwell cardiac patients, such as those needing cardiac monitoring.

CCU is acute ie life threatening.

Basically the same thing

But

Sometimes you are put in a ward that isnt relevant

Iv been in an ‘elderly ward’ in my 30’s

Been in a stroke ward (with no stroke)

Been in a surgical ward (Didnt need surgery)

Coronary care is a type of cardiac ward. Often the only ‘monitored’ beds - meaning you can be hooked up to the wires, you probably had them, that watched your heart rhythm continuously.

CCU is an intensive care unit specifically for cardiac patients. You would have been there because you needed to be monitored closely. Are you getting "coronary" mixed up with "vascular"?
