Someone stole my sandwich!!!

This happened 4 months ago now and I’m still angry about it 🤣.

Following a very rough pregnancy and an extremely long labour I had my DS. I had been an inpatient in hospital for a number of weeks due to complications and was sick of the hospital food. I knew I was going to be kept in for a few days after DS birth. My mum brought me a lovely sandwich from a local deli which I was looking forward to enjoying for an early dinner.

There was a patient fridge on the post natal ward and you had to label your food with your name and the date, which my mum duly did. I felt a bit unwell at dinner time so declined the hospital food, thinking I would have my sandwich later that evening when I was hungry.

DH and my mum left at about 7pm for the night and once I’d fed DS and got him organised I decided to take a trip to the patient fridge to get my sandwich. I was ravenous by this stage, having only had my obligatory tea and toast after having DS that morning.

Well, to my horror I opened the fridge and my sandwich was nowhere to be found. I searched high and low, there wasn’t much else in the fridge. The odd packet of sausage rolls, fruit pota, bottle of juice etc. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

I went to the midwives station and asked if there was another patient fridge, there was not. I asked if the patient fridge had been cleared, it had not. I told the midwife that I had a sandwich in there and she said unfortunately food had been getting taken by other patients/visistors recently!!!!

To this day I’m still so angry and disappointed that someone would steal food from a woman they know has only just given birth!!!!!

The midwife kindly got me a leftover sandwich from lunch time which I was grateful for, but it wasn’t the same as my delicious deli sandwich.

AIBU for thinking you can’t get much lower than stealing food from a woman who has just given birth?!

YABU = get over it, it’s been 4 months
YANBU = this will haunt you forever more

Oh boy....that hospital staff and patients would never forget my name that day. I'd have been extremely pissed off and i would want the world to know. I just gave birth 6mths ago and it was via CS, so imagine being in pain, constantly bleeding and then someone's eaten my food? screams lets get ready to rumble!!!!

Notaflippinclue · 26/01/2025 15:35

Worse when it happens in the staff room

I got a Subway for lunch.

First one for years.

When did they stop giving you all the salad in the sandwich?! And the sauce?!

Disappointed doesn't cover it!

I got salad and sauce 😋

Hungrymom · 26/01/2025 15:39

It was a New York deli style sandwich. Pastrami, Swiss cheese, mustard, mayo and gherkins if anyone is wondering.

I’m so shocked at the audacity of some people! Although I’m not surprised at some of the staff room CF’ery. Milk and butter often get stolen from our communal work fridge. I like the breast milk idea from @Wheelz46, that gave me a good laugh.

@Iheartmysmart I can’t believe you caught her in the act and she told you it was too tempting! I don’t understand how it could possibly cross someone’s mind to steal someone’s lunch that they brought from home!

You can still have all the salad here. Sauce of your choosing. Is that nit the point of Subway?

Get over it.
Yes unfortunate, but shit happens.
If this is the only issue you have in life (4 months later) then I'm truly envious.
Shit happens. It's a sandwich.

Here we go. There's always one. Didn't you realise OP that you are not allowed to complain about anything, ever, because people like this assume this is the worst thing you've ever been through and you should be permanently happy? 🤣

OliveWah · 26/01/2025 17:32

@Purrrrrfectpaws: "my experience there is someone like that in every workplace."

My Dad has a saying; "There will always be one arsehole everywhere you work, and if there isn't - it's you!"

I've worked with plenty of arseholes over the years, but I comfort myself with the thought that by my Dad's logic, at least I know it's not me!

She wrapped mine up after it came out of the toaster and it didn't even make it to the counter of the salad bar.

I'd have realised this earlier if I hadn't been faffing with trying to get the app to open 🤦‍♀️

When I had my youngest by c-section nearly 18 years ago, I came out of surgery and was starving, the hubs went and got me a chow mein and just before i could tuck in the nurses confiscated it because they said I could only have toast after the surgery. I was completely fine BTW no complications at all.

I am still salty about that chow mein. 😂

That's so bad subway is well expensive the least they can do is throw in the free salad and sauce

Festivespirit85 · 26/01/2025 18:08

There's a notice on fridge in our break out room warning people not to take other folks' lunch as it's stealing.
I mean, how bad that you can't trust people you work with. Absolute cunts.

Single50something · 26/01/2025 18:54

I had similar on a labour ward..14 years ago still remember and feel annoyed about it!
Mum got me some nice yeo valley Greek yogurts..I put them in the fridge with my name on them..went to get one and it had gone..but even worse someone had put my name tag on a blimmin tesco value yogurt!!!! I then saw a woman eating my yogurt.
I can't imagine ever being like that.. but.obv a lot of people are cf!

Nikki75 · 26/01/2025 19:18

You've got to let this go 🤣 for your own sanity.
Totally understand your fury I'd feel the same I'd be accusing everyone in sight and calling them every swear word under the sun.

Some people are just that hardfaced and cheeky they will get there karma just imagine them to get food poisoning and be sat on the toilet for a week it was probably one of the dads to be 😂

Miaminmoo · 26/01/2025 19:19

My Mum once made her (locally) famous chocolate fudge cake for me to take on our Brownie camp. All parents were encouraged to contribute something for the trip. Well, we did 3 days away and the fudge cake never materialised and I was too shy to ask the leaders where it was. The food was awful and I was really looking forward to something I knew I liked. Anyway, we got home and I told Mum none of the kids ever saw the cake and she went and asked the leaders and they lied and said it had been put out and I just hadn't seen it. Bloody liars, that was 40 years ago and me and Mum still talk about the time the Brownie leaders kept Mum's cake for themselves and lied about it. I never forgave them or trusted them again.

PoshHorseyBird · 26/01/2025 19:24

Many years ago, the job I had was live in (on the YTS) and we were paid literally pocket money. We would keep our chocolates and coke in the shared fridge in the kitchen. They would all regularly go missing. We suspected the housekeeper of pinching them (fuming as she was on a lot more money than us!) so my best friend decided to forgo her half bottle of coke and put a ton of fairy liquid in it. We came in one lunchtime to hear the housekeeper coughing and choking. Sure enough she'd had a big swig of the fairy liquid coke 😂

Many, many years ago I worked with an awful woman who would go into the staff communal fridge once lunch break was over and help herself to anything that was left.

One day I had a dentist appointment just before lunch and was too numb to eat anything. When it wore off a bit later on, I went to get my lunchbox and the whole thing was missing.

Walked around the office and found it quite brazenly on her desk. Told her it was mine and she said that I should have taken it out the fridge if I was going to eat later as it was too tempting for her!

The next day, I took in some ‘extra’ sandwiches, lovingly made with cat food and cucumber and watched her eat them with a massive grin on my face.

I would have added a bogie too 😂

fingerbobz · 26/01/2025 19:33

I would have done a Ross Gellar

MY SAND - WICH 🤬🤬

4 months? 4 months and you're still going on about it? You're very lucky. Very lucky to have no real issues in your life to be concerned about. Pathetic.

You strike me as the type of person who wouldn’t think twice to stealing food from a newly post partum woman or from the workplace communal fridge!

How do you know this?

Biffbaff · 26/01/2025 20:32

Someone stole my Ben and Jerry's from my student freezer after a house party. Not cool dudes.

Serp12 · 26/01/2025 20:35

Is that you Ross?

So my honest response makes you think I'd steal a sandwich. Seriously, move on, it's a sandwich. You may not have been able to eat your sandwich but you were able to take your baby home so be grateful for that, we're not all that lucky.
