Car insurance after someone claimed against you....

Does car insurance become more expensive if say you scarp someone's car with yours and they then go through your car insurance to fix theirs but you don't get yours fixed.

Would there be any out of pocket expenses? Or would insurance be more expensive going forward?

Thanks in advance.

I think it varies. I hit another car in my car and my insurance didn’t go up. However, I’m a named driver on my husband’s car and his insurance went up £60 because of my accident.

Once you report an accident they say you are more likely to have another one hence your insurance goes up as you're a higher risk now.

Even if you/they never claim a penny for their car or for yours, so no costs to the insurers, your premium will still go up.

It's a feckin joke.

You will need to declare to your insurance company ASAP that you have had an accident and it will certainly affect your insurance upon renewal for about five years. Anything else is fraud. HTH

Hi was that an exta £60 per month or £60 on top of the full price?

It'll go up whether you claim to have yours fixed or not, they will deem you more of a risk now.

Yes

Amba1998 · 24/01/2025 21:01

Yes very likely. They deem you more of a risk. It can fair amount more when it comes to renewal. It’s why a lot of people try and settle repairs for minor bumps and scuffs outside of insurance (not saying that’s the right thing to do, just that’s why people do it)

The full premium. It was ten years ago though.

My car insurance went up hugely after someone hit mine in a car park and drove off! Never claimed before so they’ve had years of just in case premiums off me but now they ‘have to claw back the claim from somewhere’ so I pay more for the next few years 😡😡😡it’s a bloody con!!!
