I have had my current job for six months. Before I took it, (and moved up the country) I checked out the service and the likely longevity of it as best I could. At first everything looked amazing as it has always been. However, 3 weeks in the funding started to be withdrawn from the service. Now it is looking like the job will last may be a year or so more. Bookings are well down and my role will be one of the first to go. There is no hope of things in my current job getting any better. It isn’t a business, think local authority/local government owned service.

A similar job in a more secure setting had been advertised locally. I want to apply as I need to be in employment and these jobs are quite rare.

Are there any professional and discreet phrases I can use to explain my reasoning for jumping ship? I need to have a job and I am stressed out of my mind knowing that the service I work for is on borrowed time.

I don’t want the people who are advertising the new job to think I am just flouncing off for no reason, nor do I want to be indiscreet or unprofessional with regards to the place I work now. It is a niche service and all the managers know each other.
