Fleece dressing gowns

Grrr! 90% of robes are now fleece which feels just horrid when you get out of the shower. It doesn't dry you at all! Why the change from cotton to plastic?!

I love my fleece dressing gowns, I wear them all winter to keep warm, as for showering, don't you dry yourself first?

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 24/01/2025 17:11

You need a bathrobe, not a dressing gown. John Lewis normally has decent ones.

LittleLegoTree · 24/01/2025 17:13

Yep, a dressing gown is an extra layer, traditionally: think of Sherlock Holmes in his dressing gowns, put on to keep warm when he removed his suit jacket. A bathrobe is the thing you need if you want help to dry after bathing - though surely it would leave your crevices damp if you don't have a good rub down with a towel first?

ClementinePancakes · 24/01/2025 17:15

I agree, I only like towelling.
But dc have both kinds, cotton towelling one for after the shower, fleece one for shoving on over pjs when they get up, or watching tv in the evening.

M&S have a lovely soft green towelling one in at the moment, made me wish I needed a new one!

FallOfTheHouseOfUtterlyButterly · 24/01/2025 17:17

Dressing gowns are soft and for warmth, or to cover up PJs.

Bathrobes are for when you get out of the shower. Try Dunelm

Not being funny but yes, I am aware of the difference! The selection of cotton ones is very limited now though. Not one when I looked in the massive Next near me today and about 10 different fleecey ones.

Quite agree with you. I can’t wear fleece as it makes me too static and gives me rage but can’t find any nice long cotton ones!

Thisisthemomentforchange · 24/01/2025 17:30

I don't like the look of fleece dressing gowns - they make me feel 10 years older -but I have one that I use in winter because it really is good for warmth.
When the weather isn't cold I have a toweling one and a cotton one.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 24/01/2025 17:39

I feel your pain! I've been trying to find one like i had as a teen, terry towelling my mum used to call it. It would go on straight after a shower and I'd be dry in minutes.

Can I find one? Can I balls

Cunningfungus · 24/01/2025 17:42

@monkeyblonde I’ve been constantly moaning about this saying this for years! I just order online as the shops only have the fleecy ones - hate them.

StormingNorman · 24/01/2025 17:45

Haven’t needed to buy a new bathrobe in a while but The White Company always used to do some nice ones, in a choice or white or white obviously.

TennisToday · 24/01/2025 17:45

I agree! I hate the fleecy ones, just want a nice toweling robe.

I dry myself and then wrap up in a robe that’s been on the radiator all nice and warm!

usernother · 24/01/2025 17:59

M&S does good towelling dressing gowns. They are from the men's range but I like them roomy.

There's shops other than Next!

monkeyblonde · 24/01/2025 18:12

@mrsm43s clearly - just an example.

Glad to hear I am amongst fellow fleece haters!

Marks and John Lewis do towelling robes, also plain waffle cotton robes. I hate fleece dressing gowns, horrible things, they feel vile to touch.

thenightsky · 24/01/2025 18:16

I bought a full length fleece on because it looked so lovely in the picture. I've barely worn it as it makes me so static my hair stands on end and I can't touch anything metal, even the door handle, because there's a flash and cracking noise!

Chasingaces · 24/01/2025 18:43

I struggled at Christmas to get my husband one - ended up with a cotton velour one from Amazon

Terry towelling robes all of the way! I have several. The fleece kind are just meant for relaxing in, not drying.

flyinghen · 24/01/2025 18:59

I have the M&S towelling one and it's lovely! I also have a cosy fleece one. So cosy! There's a place for both

FinnJuhl · 24/01/2025 19:04

I don't think people realise that fleece releases microplastics when washed. Even people who are reducing plastic use in other areas aren't always aware of the pollutant effect of fleece.

Whotenanny · 24/01/2025 19:06

I have a cotton waffle robe and a more fleecey dressing gown. I use the latter only when I'm really cold and up in the middle of the night or early in the morning. The waffle robe isn't bad after I've dried myself using a towel after showering.

I'd never use the fleece gown after showering, the thought makes my skin crawl.

But in answer to your question: YANBU. Definitely find yourself the right robe. John Lewis has some suitable ones.

JamMonster · 24/01/2025 19:09

100% agree - I have a towel one specifically for after the shower and a fleece one for warmth in the mornings (pre shower). I’d hate to wear fleece after a shower and like that the towelling dressing gown helps you get 100% dry… do others walk around naked or use talc in the interim? I don’t think I’m just rubbish at drying myself fully 😅

JamMonster · 24/01/2025 19:10

Try The White Company or John Lewis
