Speeding letter from Police arrived over a month after the incident

My husband has already confirmed he was the driver but I've just realised the date of the offence was 14/12/24 and the intend to prosecute letter was dated 20/01/25. I thought it had to be sent within 14 days?
But he was driving a work van so is it 14 days to contact his employer or him?

Well all we know of him is he speeds and leaves jobs on such bad terms he’s too embarrassed to contact a previous manager… not exactly screaming ‘top bloke’ material is he…

I left a job on similar terms. My manager was a bitch and I walked out. I can't say I would have been in a hurry to contact her and I wouldn't have trusted her anyway.

I know speeding is one of the worst crimes in the world according to MN but it doesn't stop someone from being a decent person.

This is all very true. I’ve been caught speeding myself and I like to think I’m still a decent person.

However, I took my deserved punishment on the chin without complaining; while this guy is looking for ways to weasel out of taking responsibility.

I had one of these recently on behalf of my employer and the letter states not to contact the driver directly but to fill in their details and send it off. You have 14 days to do that I think.

Is he? I read the posts as the OP checking whether things have been done correctly as she says he has already admitted he was driving. It looks more like she's the one doing the weasling.

If they contacted the employer first it seems likely that it would have been within the 14 days. Otherwise it's unlikely they would have been able to get a response from the employer and send the letter out to your husband within a month (especially given the Xmas break). If your husband doesn't want to pay speeding fine he can always try the keeping within the speed limit.

Yea this. It pretty much must have been in time surely? especially given how crap the Royal Mail is lol
