Watercress, rocket, spinach, canned mackerel in olive oil, red onion, pickled beetroot, spring onion, four baby potatoes, capers, olives, and a sprinkle of ground pumpkin and walnut, flaxseed, and chia seed, with a dressing of the olive oil from the mackerel, tsp Dijon mustard, two tsp honey, and lime juice.

YANBU - Of course that’s healthy
YABU - Not healthy - too much honey/potatoes/pickled food/whatever

OP posts:

It sounds delicious, reduce the honey to 1 tsp to reduce the sugar content would be my only suggestion.
Also if you're actively trying to lose weight then Iose the potatoes, but if you're not then it's fine

Posts like this are catnip to people with weird ideas about food. They are out in force here already, I see. To the rest of us, yes, that looks like a perfectly sensible, balanced meal.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/01/2025 15:31

Of course it also attracts people who can't read to the end of a couple of sentences. The dressing was made with the oil from the tin of mackerel, not that plus extra oil.

Yeah, I voted YABU because it sounds like a stomach-turning concoction of ingredients. 😆

? Stomach churning?

It's just a salad.

I wouldn't put capers in - I use those with fish, with a lemon, butter and caper sauce.

Personally I don't like raw onions or mustard and I prefer my beetroot without vinegar (pickled.)

But everything else is fine.

Igmum · 22/01/2025 15:41

Mmmmmm 😋😋😋😋

HangingOver · 22/01/2025 15:44

Id be smug as fuck if I liked food like this

2catsandhappy · 22/01/2025 15:47

I'll be there in 10 minutes. Put the kettle on.

I am a very appreciative guest. Shall I bring my homemade hummus? Be nice with veg for lunch tomorrow.

What a load of rubbish 😂

As far as I’m aware a KitKat will never be ‘healthy’, no matter who you are and what your health goals are.

And I’m pretty sure watercress and mackerel would never be unhealthy.

If someone is stuck calorie counting then it’s feasible a kitkat would have fewer calories than a salad, ergo it becomes the “healthier” choice. OP didn’t define “healthy” so if it was a huge portion it could have had a high calorie count. Clearly even a high calorie salad is better for you overall but people mix these things up a lot.

Digdongdoo · 22/01/2025 15:48

Of course it's healthy. Very balanced and nutritious. Healthy =/= low calorie.

This.
not all calories are equal, some are empty e.g the Kit Kat and some contain more nutrients e.g the nuts and seeds mentioned.

a balanced diet gets the most nutrients from each calorie consumed and that’s what ops salad does.
a calorie controlled diet is very different

slimpicks · 22/01/2025 15:55

You know it is healthy so whoever is suggesting it is not can be ignored on this, and I imagine all other areas.

The OP is smug, hence her starting this ridiculous faux-confused “oh dear is my meal unhealthy???” Post on MN 🙄

Changednameforyou · 22/01/2025 15:56

Sounds healthy but lacking in calories, I would be reaching for the biscuits after eating that.

anythingbutlillies · 22/01/2025 16:08

I stopped using the mfp app as it once told me off for putting beetroot on a salad, saying high in sugar..
Sounds nice - if I ignore the olives and honey! - enjoy😁

faithbuffy · 22/01/2025 16:09

It's fine but as you can see people will pick it apart and say it's too much sugar/carbs etc
The only "healthy" salad everyone would agree on would be lettuce
It's hardly a KFC bucket

NetZeroZealot · 22/01/2025 16:15

Good high plant content.
im doing 30 plants a week & that’s the sort of thing i have.

Stickystickysticky · 22/01/2025 16:17

Much healthier than the banoffee pie I had for breakfast (it was due to go out of date, waste not want not)

WickWood · 22/01/2025 16:18

That sounds absolutely amazing!

Growlybear83 · 22/01/2025 16:18

@Wantitalltogoaway But kitkats taste nice! I don't care how well balanced or nutritious a salad is, it still tastes horrible to me😆

Nannylovesshopping · 22/01/2025 16:19

Healthy, and yum to boot!

All salads? You can put loads of different things in a salad!

HRTQueen · 22/01/2025 16:22

Did you laugh while eating your salad 🥗

thats what is important op

NagathaCrispy · 22/01/2025 16:24

Not wild about capers personally, but otherwise, I'll be round for lunch at 12.30 tomorrow.

KittenPause · 22/01/2025 16:27

Why are you asking if it's healthy or not OP?

What makes you think it might not be healthy ?

crowstreet · 22/01/2025 16:27

You made me hungry. Why wouldn’t it be healthy?
