Data breach school

Would I be unreasonable to inform a parent that another parent has used their position as a teacher to find out privileged information about their criminal background and share it with other parents? I don’t think it is right for her to be gossiping about others behind their back.

As others have said, she must've been involved in meetings about this, or had some sort of safeguarding link to have been told this information. There are online systems school use such as Cura, which are for reporting concerns with students, safeguarding concerns etc. this could have been an entry on a system like this that she has looked through... whatever way she's found out, she's in breach of her teachers contract by sharing it with others, especially others who are not school staff! The Head does need informing so they can take action.

That's horrific. Yes you need to tell the head.

It doesn't matter if the person still works there or not.
If this can be proved to be a data breach the person can be held responsible for their actions with fines and imprisonment.

@Prawncaviar look up the data protection policy on the school website. It will tell you who to inform. Telling the parent won't help them .. you are in a better position to report it than they are (assuming you got the information first-hand).
