To ask if Haverfordwest is a Welsh speaking area?

The reason I ask is I know someone who was offered s very good job there and they, very surprisingly to me, turned the excellent job offer down.

I’m just curious to know more about the place…

“Little England beyond Wales” refers to south Pembrokeshire- roughly from Newgale.

No, it's below the Landsker Line so very English.

Thanks - that term rings a bell !!

I don't get your question - if your friend speaks welsh anyway why would Haverfordwest being a welsh speaking area make any difference to her decision?
I could understand if she didn't speak welsh so might be worried about not fitting in, but if she does speak it why would it be an issue one way or another?

Surely given she applied for the job knowing where it was it's unlikely to be the area that was the main thing that put her off, and is more likely to be something about the job itself that only came to light during the interview process?

Other than that, although carms and Haverfordwest aren't a million miles apart, if she was living fairly close to swansea and working in Cardiff, perhaps she likes being fairly close to cities and amenities whereas it is more rural again. e.g. if she wanted to watch one of the big shows in the WMC now, she could just tag it on to her working day and go in the evening, and would probably get home faster than even on a normal day because the roads would be so quiet. From Haverfordwest it would be a 4 hour round trip.

Or you could just ask her why she turned it down?!

Yes to be honest the Welsh language aspect isn’t relevant to why she turned it down - but given that she turned down an excellent job imo - I’m curious about the area
