I think I'm out of my depth with interview tomorrow

Hi all,

I'm really stressed so I have an interview at a travel company as an administration consultant (basically changing bookings, special requests, cancellations, general customer service etc)

Now this all sounds easy and absolutely isn't something I can't do but I'm really worried about the interview - I've never actually worked in administration and have only worked in contact centres for housing, loans, debt but nothing like travel and I'm worried I'm not going to be able to answer any questions.

I don't even know what they're going to ask.

Ahhhhh I'm really nervous and feel like I shouldn't go.

The worst thing that will happen is that you won’t get the job. Never have to see them again.

they obviously think you might be suitable otherwise they wouldn’t have offered an interview!

good luck

Do go - you have probably got more experience than you think and a lot of that sounds like common sense or a quick training session. Even if you don’t get it it will be a good experience and you can ask for feedback.

Fidgety31 · 20/01/2025 23:10

Focus on the transferable skills . Always give examples to each question .
You wouldn’t have got to interview stage if you didn’t have what they want .

Fake it til you make it!!
You know you can do it, just have some confidence. Look at it as experience whatever happens.
Good luck

HappyNewFeckingYear · 20/01/2025 23:13

They gave you the interview because they think you are a good choice.

You have transferable skills, sorting out loans and debts means you can handle distressed customers. They can train you how to sort the travel stuff.

Aw I’m sure you’re just nervous. Surely they already know your past experience from your application? And they still asked you to an interview.. Make a list of things that you’re good at - great telephone manner, great customer service, great team member etc. ie, things that will translate into this job too. Travel is only one aspect.. And get some sleep. Even if it turns out not to be a good fit for you it will be a good practice interview for the future. Good luck

Go to bed

It’s perfectly understandable to be nervous ahead of an interview, particularly if you think this area is outside of your previous experience. But remember, they’ve invited you for interview so they have already determined you’d be suitable, and the interview is just a chance to confirm this.

Think of your skills as transferable, identify some examples where you’ve used said skills - solved a problem, worked to a deadline or handled a conflict - and give it your best shot.

You are interviewing them too to see if they are a company you’d like to work for, so consider the meeting as a two-way process.

Good luck!

Google aome typical interview questions so that you have a few ideas in the back of your mind and aren't left umming and ahhing for too long.

I'll start you off...

What do you know about the company?
Why are you leaving your current job?
Give an example of when a project didn't go to plan? What did youbdo/how did you navigate this?
Give an example of when you have had to work with a difficult customer/colleague. What did you do to improve the relationship?

Re-read the job spec as they may also pick out a few bullet points and ask you to give an example of your experience that would meet this criteria.

Get a good night's sleep.

This is exactly what I came to say. Good luck x

Thank you all, you're all right and I need to calm down.

I did interview with them two years ago for a different but similar role but I was super jet lagged and was rejected and when I asked for feedback the reason I was rejected was due to a misunderstanding and I've been kicking myself ever since so I guess it's time to get over it like said they wouldn't have offered an interview if they weren't interested.

It didn't go as badly as I thought so thank you for the advice everyone.

At the end of the interview I asked if they wanted my passport and they took it to scan and gave me a tour of the office so I'm hoping that's a good sign!
