DD (5) has additional needs and is non verbal. The past few weeks she has been whining 90% of the time for (as far as we can tell) no reason. She is fed, watered, has plenty of toys, gets attention 24/7 etc so we can't understand what's wrong. Dh gets annoyed and will put her in her room to calm down, but that makes her more upset and makes me feel awful!! Any tips for this would be very greately appreciated, from a very tired and emotional mamma

My first thought was something uncomfortable like a UTI? Could be worth a check as it's a change in her usual behaviour?

Sorry I should have said, I handed a urine sample into the GP last Thursday and they called on the Friday and said it was clear. I think I will call them again on Monday as this isn't her at all, she's usually so happy!

Have you offered her calpol or similar? See if that gets you 4 hours peace then you know she’s in pain - although still not necessarily the cause?

Yeah we will give her calpol but it doesn't always help

Teeth? Has she got the start of a wobbly one that's a bit sore or feels wrong?

Putting her in her room to calm down is awful! There is no way she is whining 90% of the time for no reason.
Is she is school? What do they say?
She's at an age where she can pick up what's going on around her and may be really frustrated not being able to communicate like others. Could be struggling getting back in to routine after Christmas. Could be in pain, headache, tummy ache, tooth ache, growing pains. There are some awful bugs going round.
Could be overstimulated and need more quiet time/peaceful activities. Could be anxious and need more movement- long walks, play at the playground.
Your DHs reaction is really concerning for such non verbal 5 year old and it really won't help matters.

Has she seen a GP and a dentist? I think you need to do this ASAP especially as pain killers some times help.

Earache?
