Chances of us getting a cold from someone who started with one 6 days ago?

Just that. We had a relative over this morning who had started with a cold last Sunday. They said they felt better by Wednesday and it was fully gone by Thursday.

I have a 10 week old and I’m a bit worried about them catching this cold. Would you say it is likely? I know we can’t wrap up in a bubble but with baby being so tiny it puts me on edge

We did also see them last Saturday and I know people are infectious before symptoms start, so maybe there was more chance of catching it then than now?

You’ve lost all perspective which is normal but honestly just put it to the back of your mind. Worrying about this stuff does nothing but cause you stress.

Thank you! Sometimes I need to hear it bluntly.

Don't over worry about this. Your baby will be fine. This is normal life ❤️

There’s nothing you can do about it anyway. Either you’re getting the cold or not.

Staff nurse on mum’s ward said to isolate her for 5 days when she was taken in for flu recently. She was on the tropical and infectious disease ward, which felt quite serious.

And what exactly does that have to do with OP concerned about her infant catching a cold?

Notgivenuphope · 18/01/2025 13:21

Kindly OP you have way too much time on your hands
Get out in the fresh air at stop thinking!

Strawberries86 · 18/01/2025 13:22

@nooocold we’ve all been there. Congrats on your new baby

Because the OP said it had been 6 days since the visitor had started and if a staff nurse on an infectious disease ward thinks that 5 days is enough to be safe, I was hoping to reassure her. Jesus Christ!

Adding that context might've helped then!

You are infectious as long as you have symptoms, eg coughing, sneezing etc, although sometimes cough can linger once infectious stage has passed . If the symptoms had resolved before you met then you and your baby will be fine . If you do get a cold it is more likely you picked it up elsewhere .
