Just scrolling through as I’m looking for a car to adopt and saw this cat on a small rescue site and I want to meet her with a view to adopt, I am going to enquire . Wondered what breed she looks like?

Looks to have an element of Maine Coon looking at that ruff around the neck, but could simply be a moggie, a Heinz 57, as we might say for a dog. However, this cat does look quite similar to my Maine Coon/Ragdoll cross, with her ruff.

Is it quite large - like over 4kg? Domino is 4.6 kg (weighed on Monday at annual check up) but her littermate brother is 6.5 kilos.

Aww gorgeous. I’m not sure how much she weighs yet. I noticed her ears look quite small

She looks like mine. Thankfully I've just seen her on my bed. She's a British Long Haired.

RedLouise9 · 17/01/2025 19:34

Her ears also point to the side, rather than up

Lovely standard long haired mog.

0psiedasiy · 17/01/2025 19:44

The kind your going to have lots of jphair to clean up- I have a white domestic long hair and we have white hair stuck to everything, I never wear black, you will just be the opposite and always wear dark colours. Kitty looks gorgeous enough to put up with the hair though

Chemenger · 17/01/2025 19:45

The type that will shed white hair on dark clothes and black hair on white clothes, and be absolutely adorable. Domestic long hair moggy.

CovertPiggery · 17/01/2025 19:46

Looks like a domestic long hair moggy to me too.

Bonus that the insurance is usually lower for moggies than fancy breeds.

Cats' ears can point in all sorts of directions. She doesn't look very comfortable in this photo, so she has flattened her ears slightly to show this.

That's just the position her ears were in when the photo was taken. She's a Domestic long hair (moggy) beautiful cat!

Gorgeous cat OP, whatever the breed. Life is nothing without cats. How exciting for you adopting - very best of luck!

KnickerFolder · 17/01/2025 19:59

FWIW people often notice traits in their cats that are specific to certain breeds and wonder if they are a crossbreed (eg a ruff like a Maine Coon) but the reality is “breeds” are just cats that have been selectively bred to have a set of certain traits and then only bred with other cats that have those traits. Those traits are are nothing special that doesn’t occur in the general moggy population so lots of non pedigree cats will have those traits too.

She/he is gorgeous!

LadyGreySpillsTheTea · 17/01/2025 20:00

A very gorgeous long-haired moggy who looks like she has a pile of attitude - lucky you! 😀 The sidewards ears are colloquially known as ‘airplane ears’ and indicate she was a bit uneasy about the photo being taken. I’m sure she can rotate them in most directions, cats usually can. Maybe get a furminator brush to keep that fur under control? Let us know when you get her home.

TheTecknician · 17/01/2025 20:01

Can I please hijack this thread for a moment for a cat related question? Is it true that all domestic cats, regardless of breed or ancestry, have tabby markings ? I've heard this is so; even solid-coloured cats show the markings in certain light conditions, i.e. spots and/or stripes and the 'M' on the forehead.

Thankyou.

Iamacatslave · 17/01/2025 20:04

Long haired mog - beautiful.

No OP is stuffed, can’t wear black or white. Hope you’ve got a colourful wardrobe.

ChilledProsecco · 17/01/2025 20:05

A British longhaired! Just like my gorgeous boy!!! He is huge (over 6kg with giant paws)

Ohnonotmeagain · 17/01/2025 20:05

Does breed matter?

if so you’re better going to a breed rescue.

CurlewKate · 17/01/2025 20:20

People will say Maine Coon because they desperately want it to be. But it looks like a basic fluffy moggy to me! Beautiful-but moggy.

Montymorency · 17/01/2025 20:27

I would say a moggie. have had cats for 60 years. whatever, she's lovely!

VeryQuaintIrene · 17/01/2025 20:30

@TheTecknician Yes, I believe it is correct that underneath they are all tabbies!

As for OP, you could always have a DNA test done for fun. My boy who looks bit similar (though all grey) has no tail, so I assumed Manx in his ancestry, but he turned out to have no Manx at all in him but a chunk of Maine Coon and Norwegian forest cat.

Nellienooiloveyou · 17/01/2025 20:31

A long haired tuxedo floof!! Aka domestic cat that is beautiful
