To find colleagues behaviour a bit odd?

We started around the same time (her maybe a month before) and she seems intent on proving to me that she knows so many people in the business and she’s really popular.

I’m a couple of years older and I’m friendly and chatty at work but tbh my days of heavily socialising with colleagues is over. I have good friends around me, if I met someone I really clicked with at work then amazing but I’m not actively trying to befriend people.

Once we were in the office together and she (no lie) told me five times throughout the day “oh I must go speak to Jennifer” and then told me “I’m going to go speak to Jennifer” and came back and told me “I’ve just spoken to Jennifer” and told me about their conversation. I have no clue who Jennifer even is 😳

We have a new colleague who’s located at a different office (a good 3 hours away) and the amount of times she tells me how they talk all the time, how they follow each other on social media, things about her life. …. I’m just like good for you?

I really couldn’t care less. I’m happy for her if she has genuine friends at work but it feels like a constant need to tell me this?

She sounds odious OP. She’s one of those that expects you to be impressed by her ‘popularity’ - when you dgaf. I imagine she’ll also watch you closely in your interactions with others and then actively approach that person afterwards and try and share an in joke with them.

I’ve known many people like this and try and change my mindset to find it amusing rather than annoying.

It's insecurity. Better to feel sorry for her than get annoyed.

She thinks she's in competition with you ans trues to prove her popularity. Ignore it and comment non-chalantly. It means you're winning!

YANBU OP

Your colleague is me at 14!!!

She sounds dull and self-obsessed.
