to think that 12a means somewhere around 12, not 5-7

just went to see iron man, (leaving dd at home, obv) and the cinema was full of 5-7 year olds. now this is a film of violence, some sex references, and a lot of talking! a family of four sat in front of us and wherever there was a bit of plot said family are talking, crying and doing armpit farts.

it was very annoying {grrr emoticon]

I think strictly speaking it means "any under-12s OK with adults along" but LOL at the armpit farts (this sort of thing is why I never go to the cinema )

WendyWeber · 05/05/2008 19:02

(When I saw the film title earlier I confused it with the Iron Giant, I wonder if they did too?)

i think yabu.
however, if the kids are in the cinema, then they should be taught how to behave in the cinema. ie. stay quiet, and not do stupid armpit farts.

Twiglett · 05/05/2008 19:04

no it means the film classifiers advise parents that it is suitable from around 12 but it is there decision whether to take a younger child (IMHO this means a child from 10 up not from 5 up .. and some parents are pratts)

WendyWeber · 05/05/2008 19:05

Yeah, but how many adults sit quietly in the cinema, stitch? (When I used to go I always had people whispering, crunching and rustling papers right behind me - when they weren't kicking my seat...)

Twiglett · 05/05/2008 19:05

the 'a' stands for advisory and accompanied by the way

WendyWeber · 05/05/2008 19:08

Oooh, so it does twig. Parents extra-prattish then

(I thought 12A was for younger kids than PG. Good job I'm not reponsible for any under-12s these days)

i am just kind of wondering why they don't do a ten certificate. aside from the annoyances, which i agree you can get in a cinema full of adults, i was just suprised that the parents hadn't checked what it was like. but horses for courses i suppose.
