Lucy and Yak dungarees

I want to buy some off Vinted but it's really hard to know what size to go for. I already have a jumpsuit from Lucy and Yak which I was advised to size down for and it fits well. Very roomy with lots of space over the belly (which is essential for me!) however my normal size would have been too big and looked like a sack.

Does the same apply for the dungarees with the tie straps? Just don't want to buy some and have the faff of having to return them via Vinted. They aren't cheap even second hand.

I have a few pairs- go for your normal size.

Theyre designed to be slightly oversized looking when worn.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 17/01/2025 09:11

Yes I sized down and it's a good job I did as the size below my normal size fit perfectly! That being said I've lost a bit more weight and they're very forgiving - just look a bit more baggy (but in a nice way).

ErickBroch · 17/01/2025 09:12

I sized down and regretted it! I prefer ones in my actual size

AuContrairePubicHair · 17/01/2025 09:14

The sizes are completely random from one style/print to another, in my experience. Good luck 🤣

Mabelface · 17/01/2025 09:15

Normal sized for me 😊

UniversalTruth · 17/01/2025 09:15

You could message the seller and ask if they come up big.

badwife23 · 17/01/2025 10:02

Yes I did wonder if the styles make a difference as my jumpsuit is massive and very forgiving! But the dungarees look slightly different.

I have a few pairs - the ones I got directly from L&Y fit perfectly in my size; they're not supposed to be super tight, rather a bit slouchy. Then I bought a pair from Vinted and they were crap! Fit in the legs and stomach, but when the straps were tied if I had the bib part where it was supposed to be, I'd split myself in half from the fanjo up! So I had to have them tied sort of...mid-nipple range. 😵‍💫 Not a big boob problem as I'm not particularly large in that region, either. I just wear them for pootling in the garden now, or if it's cold and I can throw a jumper over the top.

Don't know if the seller had tumbledried them or something. My other ones all washed fine with no shrinkage, so god knows what she'd done. Just keep it in mind! I'm usually a Vinted fiend but that was a let down.

Newfoundzestforlife · 17/01/2025 10:30

I'm a size 10 in almost everything and I size down (size 8) in Lucy and yak dungarees as they are very generously oversized.

It's weird this thread popped up today as I've been obsessing over a pair of sun and moon corduroy orion ones I saw on Vinted yesterday but can't really justify the purchase as I already have 4 pairs of navy corduroy dungas!

TheDandyLion · 17/01/2025 10:31

They hold their value on the second hand market so get the best guess and if it doesn't fit just resell on Vinted again.

BarnacleBeasley · 17/01/2025 10:34

I size down, but I find that I always have to size down in things that are supposed to be oversized because I'm also quite short. I suspect this isn't the case for taller people as it's easier to carry off the extra slouchiness on a taller frame.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 17/01/2025 10:35

I sized up when I was pregnant and they fitted me right up to birth ! I’m still wearing them now 8 months later and they fit well but a bit oversized now! So I’d think my normal size is right

FabuIous · 17/01/2025 10:35

I’d ask the seller to measure the bit you’re worried about.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/01/2025 10:50

I find them too short, even the long ones. I'm 5'8" and neither the legs nor torso is long enough for me. Having said that, I still wear them a lot, albeit with the legs rolled up ( to look intentional) and the bib too low down.

Size wise, normal size (14 for me) is fine widthways!

Weirdly, I've just seen this. These are the ones I've got and it looks like the bib is supposed to be low! Though I think they're a tad lower on me but I've not worn that pair for a while. Maybe that's how that particular pair are supposed to sit. Do you know what type you have? I'm 5'4 and size 6, so our measurements differ but it looks like we've managed to have the same problem...maybe it's not a problem at all!

badwife23 · 17/01/2025 12:33

The only area I'm worried about is the belly. I bought some dungarees off Vinted a while ago (not L&Y ones) expecting them to be a bit roomy and they were so tight and unflattering across my flabby belly.

The ones in the photo look like mine ( I have two corduroy pairs and a twill pair) but as they are several years old, I'm not sure if they have a name.
I reckon mine are even lower in the bib than that, but I have a lot more norkage to cover than the model. Maybe they are designed for the flatter of chest?

StrangeSenseOfCalm · 17/01/2025 12:43

On the website there is a “what size should I buy” calculator. Might be worth trying?

It basically just asks you what size are you in other trousers, I said 10 M&S and they said get a 10 then.

I bought some of the Addison trousers and they fit nicely but I find the high band quite constricting when sat for too long (driving etc)

I think maybe you and I have the same pair/style then as mine were older too. Maybe they've just re-branded them!
It seems like they might be! I'm not exactly buxom but they definitely don't sit so daintily on me as they do the model. 😆 I'm glad to know I wasn't just sold a shrunken pair though. Every time I put them on I wonder what the seller could possibly have done to them!

AlertCat · 17/01/2025 12:49

Interesting, I needed to size up for L&Y jumpsuits! But the Original style dungarees are very forgiving, I am between sizes and wear the bigger one, because I can get jumpers under them comfortably then, but I could easily wear the smaller size.

check the leg length too, as there is a regular and a long leg (maybe a short leg? Not sure!).

Orangefield · 17/01/2025 12:56

I own a lot of Lucy & Yak in sizes ranging from 16 to 22 (which all fit!)
I even have multiple sizes of the same item as the different fabrics even seem to make a difference to the fit. There's a Facebook group called Lucy & Yak Official Community Group which is a great place to get sizing advice on different styles.

Oooh, thanks for this! I've been considering some new ones for the spring/summer so this should be handy!

Mine are like this (I bought them directly from L&Y about 3 or 4 years ago). I finally relented and lengthened the straps so I'm not cut up the middle, but now they look weird. I've never loved them, TBH, so will probably sell on vinted!

It's annoying isn't it?! I was gutted because they were in really good condition too. I've tried wearing them out with the lengthened straps but it gets on my nerves; feels like I'm not dressed properly. Like a pp said though, I reckon you'll still get a good price on Vinted so worth a try. Maybe someone shorter in the torso would find they work for them!
