To report to ofsted?

I work in a nursery and I have concerns but I don't know how to report without the risk of losing my job. My manager is also new and I can't imagine she is easily approachable so far..
1 . The nursery is mouldy. Particularly upstairs where the younger children are. There is thick black mould on the walls and round the window frames which are very old. 2. I have seen some very questionable interactions with the children, including being very snappy and abrupt with them and sometimes some are left to cry and not receive any comfort. (witnessed when I went to get something from another room) 3. Children run around without their shoes and socks on in one of the rooms which I know isn't great and not good if we were to have a fire alarm. 4. Apprentices and unqualified staff are often left alone in a room with the children.

Yes report and also look at the whistleblowing policy for the nursery as there should be somebody named or a procedure for you to take your concerns to.

Lovelybitofsquirrel3 · 16/01/2025 23:03

Well yes but you should take photos and report to the police probably

Cantgetausername87 · 16/01/2025 23:05

I think shoes off in rooms is normal practise and more hygienic. Thick mould and abrupt staff is not. But best to get some evidence too

kiana2015 · 16/01/2025 23:05

Whistleblowing.. you're protected. There should be policies

B2B25 · 16/01/2025 23:05

I'd also find out who your LADO (local authority designated officer) is and report it to them.

Oh yes, it's more the fact they are bare feet

I go into one of the rooms regularly and I see children standing on chairs, throwing toys everywhere, very chaotic and staff don't seem to be doing much

Your whistleblowing procedure and LADO information should be in your safeguarding policy. Most LAs also have contact details online. It'll go to ofsted after LADO.

wonderstuff · 16/01/2025 23:14

Your local authority will have a LADO, you should be able to google their contact details. I work in school and our procedure is speak to designated safeguarding lead, unless we have concerns about staff in which case head, if we have concerns about the head we’re to contact the LADO (local authority designated officer).
