Sorry, blatantly not an AIBU but really need quick help. What can I send a friend in Spain to cheer her up? Nothing serious just she's fed up... was thinking yorkshire tea and Cadbury chocolate. Anything else, or anything better? Something not too big/heavy ideally! Thank you!

Biscuits. All the biscuits. M&S biscuits. A biscuit aisle in Spain is a sad thing.

doihaveacase · 16/01/2025 21:53

Both your ideas good too! I can get Yorkshire tea on Amazon but anything other than plain Cadburys is hard. Creme Eggs if she likes them? Absolutely gold dust.

Thank you! That's helpful x

Definitely biscuits....and Jaffa cakes maybe??

CoffeeBeansGalore · 16/01/2025 22:05

Deans.co.uk

Scottish shortbread. Absolutely gorgeous. I've been to the factory/giftshop. Could have bought every variety!

Nothing if you're in the UK - she'll have to pay import duty

Oh really?? I didn't know that 😳

Yeah, honestly it's not worth it, I have friends in Spain who hate it when people send them stuff from the UK because they have to pay far more than it's worth to receive it, since Brexit.

If you want to send something, look on Amazon.es (the Spanish site) and send something direct from there, so it's coming from Spain not the UK.

Timetheworldsaysicantafford · 16/01/2025 22:26

Gosh, honestly it never even crossed my mind. That would have been SO annoying for her! Thanks guys

I prefer the Spanish biscuit ailes over the British one tho im Spanish so many of these biscuits are part of my childhood

as another poster says you’ll have to pay duty when receiving boxes in Spain.

what is she fed up with? I’d search for a spa , restaurant or similar. Some day experience

Send her some links to some entertaining podcasts if you know what she likes

doihaveacase · 16/01/2025 22:51

Oh yeah, I forgot about the stupid import taxes. That is a pain. Send something from Ireland? I've done that with books before now.

ItsAlwaysSunnyInMyDreams · 16/01/2025 22:55

I've sent things from Amazon.co.uk to my greek family and they didn't need to pay import duty! So if something is willing to send to spain (and price isn't extortionate) it's an option!

KrisAkabusi · 16/01/2025 23:01

Buy something on amazon.es for her. No extra charges that way.

Amazon uk has a deal with some EU countries where the tax is calculated at the purchase point, so you will have paid it. But it can add up to a lot and often isn't worth it.

healthybychristmas · 16/01/2025 23:13

I wouldn't send her Cadburys chocolates anyway. They're absolutely foul nowadays.

As is the cereal aisle. Full of sugary tasteless crap. But you can’t send breakfast cereal to a pal in need 🤣🤣
I would send
Tea
Cadburys chocolate
M&S foodhall biscuits (the round ones covered in chocolate)

but yes be careful of customs

Snack a jacks

Mazanna123 · 17/01/2025 23:41

Books. You can send via amazon.es

Snack a jacks? She said she wanted to cheer her up.

Seashor · 18/01/2025 01:13

I send packages to family members in Spain regularly and they have never had to pay import or duty tax, NEVER, EVER.
You have to declare every item for Spanish customs but that’s all.
My Spanish family love orange squash so I buy the tiny little concentrated ones. They love our jam and chocolate buttons. I don’t send biscuits because it’s a nightmare to pack them so that they don’t crush. I also send hampers from Fortum and Mason for Christmas, I just order from their website.

JMSA · 18/01/2025 01:14

Shortbread.

JMSA · 18/01/2025 01:16

Oh gosh, just read about the import taxes.
I wouldn't have known that either, OP!

AllrightNowBaby · 18/01/2025 01:22

Traditional sweets, like Liquorice Alsorts, Jelly Babies, Worthers etc.
Also, I send parcels to my family in Malta regularly from Uk and they never pay any duty, as long as you state that it’s a gift, which it is….
