To ask how to stop this?

Been in present house for 6 years. Two parcels for relative of previous owner arrived via courier. Refused to accept the parcels. Concerned they are creating a debt at my address...

Where were the parcels from?

Contact the previous owner and ask them to tell their relative their new adress would be the obvious first step.

NoSoupForU · 16/01/2025 20:03

It wouldn't matter if they were building up debt at your address as they have no financial link to you.

But given they won't receive the items they're ordering I'd say it's probably a mistake and they just haven't updated the shipping address on an account, having not bought anything from them for a while.

verycloakanddaggers · 16/01/2025 20:09

I would assume a mistake at this stage, rather than deliberate.

Continue to refuse delivery for their items if it happens again.

Catza · 16/01/2025 20:10

I ordered something on eBay and it was shipped to my 8 year-old address as I very rarely use eBay and didn't clock it wasn't updated. 80 mile trip to retrieve a parcel, sigh...
Things are usually a lot less nefarious than an anxious mind imagines.

SunshineAndFizz · 16/01/2025 20:11

Refuse any parcels explaining not known at this address. Same for any letters - return to sender with 'not known at this address' and it'll soon stop.

BarbaraHoward · 16/01/2025 20:11

So easily done by mistake. DH did similar recently and sent some work stuff to a relative. Not a big deal.

pimplebum · 16/01/2025 20:17

you pay for things on line in advance so don’t know why you think there would be debt ? And how that could effect you ?

I have the details of the old owners and have let them know when they accidentally had a parcel delivered as I think that’s helpful and kind thing to do

SweedieLie · 16/01/2025 20:19

I've done exactly the same. Bought something on Amazon, wondered where it was three days later and it had gone to my old address we moved from 5 years ago.

I had no idea my old address was even still held and we use Amazon a lot, have had probably 100+ deliveries to our new address since we moved! I must have just dragged a dropdown by mistake, I imagine it's common enough.

CherubEarrings · 16/01/2025 20:21

Often people open an account to pay for things so do not pay upfront.

This is second time. First time with different catalogue.

Also same person gave my address when got a court fine so had police at the door.

Agree with pp regarding more likely an updating error on a website.

I accidently send something I needed in my house to my mums house 100s of miles away last week. Woops, very easily done

CherubEarrings · 17/01/2025 08:39

I am suspicious as the first time it happened I gave them the parcels via someone they know in the street.

This time I did not accept the parcels from the courier.

Then there was the incident with a court fine or summons so they pretended to live at my address.
