To buy into a Franchise ?

ohsotired2022 · 16/01/2025 17:59

*Hi
Has anyone had any experience with The Sleep Nanny Franchise ?

I’m thinking of leaving my current job in Nursing to pursue this.

It’s £9k to buy in which I could take a loan to do.
I would then have to pay £500 per month for the 1st 3 years so a further £18k.
So full amount I’d be spending on this would be £27k.

Is this crazy. When I write it down it sounds crazy. I’ve spoke to people who are working as Sleep Nanny’s and they seem happy and are saying they are making money. Working from home. Setting their own hours.

Would love to hear from anyone who has signed up to this. *

Unfortunately , it sounds like a (very expensive) MLM scheme to me. I was always told that any job you have to pay to do/sign-up for is a scam.

Also, I wonder if people will tend to cut back on "luxury" items like sleep nannies in future due to cost of living.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/01/2025 18:05

What do you get for £27,000?

ForRealCat · 16/01/2025 18:07

Sounds mad. With your qualifications you should be able to set up as self-employed. You might not get quite as much business, but I'm sure you'd be better off than the 27k buy in.

Water41 · 16/01/2025 18:11

You'd be mad.

ginasevern · 16/01/2025 18:15

This doesn't sound like a good idea OP. £27k is a huge amount of money that you will never see again if this fails. What do you even get in return? Why don't you set up on your own, you sound like you have the experience and qualifications?

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles they have said you would get full training and have an evidence based programme to follow. You can set up group sessions with all the slides ready for you to use.
They would do all your marketing for you ?

If you set up on your own word of mouth is a great way to get jobs and there will be lots of places you can advertise for your target audience.

It sounds like a total scam to me

None of that is worth 27k.

Christmasfizzleout · 16/01/2025 18:18

That doesn't sound worth 27k.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 16/01/2025 18:25

Madness. What's your return on the 27k?

ohsotired2022 · 16/01/2025 18:37

One of the people I spoke to said she was making between £3 - £5k per month

The name “Becky Brightman” rang a few bells so I had a look and she’s well known for running MLM scams. It seems she “introduces” them to the U.K. market, then once the market is flooded opens another one. I wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole

Making, or taking home? Looking at the site it looks like MLM.

imnotsickbutimnotwell · 16/01/2025 18:47

Is there any proof of this? Is the income guaranteed? Sounds like an MLM scam. Do not touch it with a barge pole.

TheNoonBell · 16/01/2025 18:52

I would highly recommend reading the reviews on Trustpilot before signing up.

I bet she isn't.

This is a blog from someone sucked into a beauty MLM. I'd recommend it.

This is all really great advice, thank you .
It's what my DH has been saying and he is worried we could lose our house if I don't make enough to cover the £500 and have enough for my own outgoings.

But ha ha I've not listened to him but will listen to internet strangers

Off to Google

Oh she's not. It's mlm all over.

Lostthefairytale · 16/01/2025 19:00

It's not necessarily MLM. I invested in similar training/franchise package to give me legitimacy in setting up a similar business. For me it has been a huge success BUT you need a lot more info to judge if this is a reasonable investment. £500 per month is a lot, way more than I pay. You need to know what you are getting for that. Are you going to be selling a package to customers or is it an hourly rate you will be charging. If it an hourly rate what will you need to charge to earn a decent living and absorb this fee, and is that realistic? If it is a package how much will you need to work. Basically you need to have a clearer business plan. You also need to think about whether you can afford that £500 if it isn't successful and you need to return to nursing.

What I would say is that I don't see demand for this type of service decreasing, my experience is that it is increasing all the time. Due to being able to work online could don't need to worry about there being enough demand in your local area which takes the pressure off a lot.

biscuitsandbooks · 16/01/2025 19:01

This is clearly a MLM.

littleluncheon · 16/01/2025 19:03

If you want to become a sleep nanny/consultant/trainer, do a course first through someone like BabyEm.
It will cost you under £400!

I would also join a night nanny agency and actually do some night nannying to get some experience, otherwise no one is going to hire you!

You need some hands on professional experience working with infants and families.

Jellycatspyjamas · 16/01/2025 19:05

I bet with your training you could look at the evidence and create a programme yourself, and market it easily. If not, I’ll do a slide deck for you for half the price.

It’s very expensive for what it is. You could do a Masters for less than that, gain the credibility through qualification and run a very nice business.
