Size 12 or 13 shoe - please tell me what you think

Hi everyone, I'm just after some quick advice if you see this

Dd has autism so can't tell me which feels better

I've had to buy her some new trainers for school as she's suddenly grown out of her size 11s over Xmas

I got size 12 and 13. The 12 went on pretty snug and the 13 went on easier

The 13 doesn't seem to fall off her foot when I lift it up and she seems to be able to jump fine in both (this girl loves to jump)

But I'm wondering if the 13 would be too big when she actually walks in them

Would you return the 12 or 13?

I know you can't see the shoes so it's difficult

Wibu to keep the bigger pair so she has room to grow?

Sorry for the mundane aibu, I just don't have anyone irl i can ask

It's mumsnet or sending her in in crocs tomorrow and asking the teachers for their opinion 🙈😫 - please help! x

Can you feel the end of her toes in the shoe? Are they very close to the end of the 12s? If so, I'd go for the 13s. If she won't tolerate her toes being felt (my DD never did!), draw round her foot on a bit of paper and compare to the length of each shoe. You'll be able to see how much of a gap there is at the end.

Oh this is a good idea 😅

I'll get some paper and try it - she's not a fan of her feet being touched but I'll try now, rank you

Op get your DD to stand on a tape measure and see how long her feet are. Then once you know you can look at sizing charts and see what her length corresponds to in shoe size charts. It can also help to put your DD’s heel and the tape measure against the skirting board for measuring.

good luck.

Aw the poor thing if she hates her feet being touched.

I'd say keep the bigger pair. I was traumatised by tight shoes in junior school. I know that seems like an overreaction, but it was like being claustrophobic in MRI machine. It never occurred to me to tell my mother, until it was time for my next pair.

PathOfLeastResitance · 16/01/2025 16:26

When she has the larger size on, do them up as you would usually and then ask her to seat down. With her foot in the air see if the shoe can be slipped on her ankle by moving the shoe around.

@xmasdealhunter she wouldn't cooperate with the paper 😅

Bless her, she does hate having her feet touched, I'm off to hunt around for the tape measure to try that

I've splashed out on seamless tights at £8 a pair for school and she does seem happier in the mornings 🥺

One of the things that made me realise I've got asd was when her pediatrician asked about discomfort wearing socks. I cant stand them

Bless you, it's not nice and sometimes, especially years ago, it was hard to explain sensory issues

the bigger ones and a inner sole for a short while?

InTheRainOnATrain · 16/01/2025 16:49

You should be able to tell by feeling the end of her toes. There should be a small gap, toes shouldn’t be right at the end but there shouldn’t be loads of room either. But also you could have her put the larger pair on and go for a walk round the block. If they’re fine then return the smaller ones. If they’re not then she wears the smaller ones right now and the bigger ones go into the back of the shoe cupboard ready for when she next has a growth spurt.

Frustrated Headache GIF by Kelly Clarkson

Dd has just spilt a fruit shoot on the size 12s

Only the tip but problem solved 😫😫😫, ill return the 13s

@ForRealCat do those things work? It's moot now but would've been a good idea

Thanks everyone ☺️ - my fault, shouldn't have left dd alone in them 🙄😄

I'll see whether I can budget to keep the 13s anyway but if not I'll return xx

I feel for you with the fruit shoot, have had similar happen!

I can I take the insole out and get DC to stand on that to get an idea of whether a shoe fits. Some are glued in though so it doesn't always work.
