Thames Water bill - how can this be right?

Tinseltuttifruitti · 16/01/2025 09:11

My water bill has increased by 50 percent even though my usage has gone down slightly, has this happened to anyone else? Is there anything I can do about it? Thanks all. It's so disheartening that every month things are more expensive.

Thames water are greedy, incompetent bastards. That really is the entire explanation.

Lifestooshort71 · 05/03/2025 13:43

Thames Water, 2 of us in a flat, gone from £540 a year to £750. 😒😒😒

Onthetipofmytonguetoo · 05/03/2025 14:12

Ours has gone up a huge amount. Starting April. Not in a meter - but it’s risen from £480 or thereabouts to over £700.

cherrytree12345 · 05/03/2025 14:17

I am with Welsh Water (Dwr Cymru) our bills have gone up £20 a month from April. Supposedly a 'not for profit' company- our money is going somewhere!

TheMorels · 05/03/2025 14:19

Ours has gone up massively too. Also Thames Water.

DryIce · 06/03/2025 07:39

My Thames Water bill was £540 when I moved in 3 years ago. Just got this year's, £940 🙃

I am furious, we are paying for incompetent, cynical mis-management

MrsPeregrine · 06/03/2025 07:46

It will get to a stage where it’s cheaper for people to just buy and use bottled water. This is greed. I think the water companies have seen how much the utility companies have been allowed to fleece their customers and want to do the same too. The governments of the day just let them get away with it, so they carry on and the prices continue to rise. And they wonder why we have a cost of living crisis.

We are sleepwalking into a nightmare where even the middle classes won’t be able to afford to pay for the basics.

marshmallowmix · 07/03/2025 09:35

it is daylight robbery....poor management, huge bonuses and salaries paid out and consumers landed with mega bills it is unbelievable we are going up by a third!! how is that even allowed....

AestheticallyChallenged · 07/03/2025 10:12

The government ( whether labour or conservative) has been absolutely determined to sell off as much of the UK to overseas investors as possible who then milk it ruthlessly for profit. The aim is literally to drain all of the wealth from the UK. Only very poor countries sell off their utilities like this and only because they have no choice. We certainly need a different sort of government in the UK. I had hoped that labour would re- nationalise the water industry or at least stop them ripping us off and polluting the seas, waterways and National Parks but not a chance! They have said that they will re- nationalise railways though so I guess that's a start.

To help them to pump sewage into the Wye , maybe?

AuraBora · 08/03/2025 06:53

Yesterday I received my annual bill from South East water - a nice rise from £603 to £860 a year. That's a 43% increase. I fucking despair. Felt gloomy all day about it.
These increases are just not sustainable.

Glitchymn1 · 08/03/2025 06:56

They want us on meters!

Welsh Water £65- £90 a month for 2025.

NotchainLink · 14/03/2025 17:14

I had the same exact issue but they didn’t charge me for TWO YEARS. I had to call them up and ask what was happening. They admitted their system just stopped working and they would resolve it. My bill went from the normal £40/mo before they stopped charging me to £136 to repay them.

One charge bounced because I didn’t move enough over from savings that month — and then they just kept charging and charging. Now they said I owe £760 by 1 April.

Besides the ONE bounced charge, how is any of this my fault?? Their systems are so effed up.

marshmallowmix · 16/03/2025 12:44

Same they didn’t read my meter for 3.5 years then said I owed them almost £600 which I had to pay within 14 days…it’s terrible …

Howandwhy · 20/03/2025 17:37

Pitty we didn't all vote for Jeremy Corbyn who had our best interests at heart and who was offering something different. Oh well.

Msmoonpie · 20/03/2025 17:42

Thames water. Just cut out the middle man and piss and shit in the Thames. Maybe don’t also drink it though.

Mine has gone from £88 per month to £123!! Along with the Council Tax increase, I will no longer be able to support our local businesses.

Mine's exactly the same. It's a 3 bed semi, ex council. A friend lives less than a mile away in a 4 bed, 3 bath detached house and pays less. Go figure 🙇

Vinorosso74 · 24/03/2025 12:41

Just had our bill through from Thames Water, £201 increase £438 to £639. Absolute joke. Utilities should not be making profits for shareholders or lining the CEOs pockets.
We're unmetreable, someone came around a few years ago to look at fitting one.
