I would appreciate if you could please share your understanding of this question:

"You have mentioned owning an expensive apartment in XXXXX (name of city abroad). Could you confirm the details of any inheritance or assets related to this property and explain where the funds are currently held or directed?

I'm confused at the owning and inheritance part. He's submitted this to court. He lied. I don't own a property abroad and have not come onto any inheritance.

Thank you.

Surely you just write back and correct them?

I'm.not sure what you're asking to be honest

Agree

confusedlots · 15/01/2025 21:31

If you don't own a property abroad then just write back and correct them. Or do you have an interest in a property abroad or another involvement which makes him think you own it?

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 15/01/2025 21:31

Is the letter from him or the courts?

I’m not entirely sure what his question means. Is he suggesting that I own a property or that I have inherited one?

Yes. One of his questions directed to me. We have an upcoming hearing.

Just write back...

"You are incorrect. I do not own a property abroad, expensive or otherwise, and neither have I received an inheritance. I have never claimed that I do. You are welcome to do whatever checks are necessary, at your own expense, to verify this."

LittleRedRidingHoody · 15/01/2025 21:35

I'd assume he's just trying to cover all bases, so is basically asking for all information instead of specifying one or the other.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 15/01/2025 21:36

Dear X

I do not and never have owned a property in ( e.g. ) Paris - I do not know nor understand where you got this idea from.
Thus I do not and have never had any assets from any property in Paris.

Regarding an inheritance, I have not received any inheritances in my lifetime.

Thank you. I was concerned about the court requesting evidence, as I have none to provide.

OP posts:
JanglyBeads · 15/01/2025 21:36

He's just trying to confuse the court and look clever, just answer simply:
"I can confirm to the court that I do not own, nor have an interest of any kind, in any foreign property/ apartment. Please clarify as to what "funds" or "inheritance" you are referring, thank you."

The secret is to appear terribly helpful!

Do you own a property?
Have you inherited a property?

If no to both it's easy. If you need to clarify which is correct you just do that.

What difference does it make if you haven’t inherited and don’t own one?

JanglyBeads · 15/01/2025 21:37

It's hilarious what they dream up, isn't it?

JanglyBeads · 15/01/2025 21:37

The judge will not be impressed with him. Don't worry OP

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 15/01/2025 21:39

“I do not own a property abroad in xxx or elsewhere. I have not received any inheritance of money nor share of any overseas property.”

he can prove otherwise.

given the wording of the question, does someone in your family own a property in that location?

We're going to court to resolve financial matters following our divorce. He's making up claims, and I was worried the court might believe him and request evidence that I simply don't have.

grumpygrape · 15/01/2025 21:40

You can't prove a negative. Just be clear you don't have an apartment or inheritance.

beetr00 · 15/01/2025 21:42

@Inc4 it's to do with financial disclosure, he's reaching!

He has asked me 17 questions, most of which are nonsensical, with a few entirely made up about non-existent transactions and assets. He's also reworded the same question 3 times.

You can’t prove that you don’t own property in Paris.

He has to prove that you own property in Paris.

As pp said, reply that you don’t own property and he is welcome to pay for any necessary checks to verify that statement.

The court isn't going to ask you to prove yku do not own an unspecified property in a city, because presumably that would be impossible.

JanglyBeads · 15/01/2025 21:45

The court will unfortunately have met his type before (eg my ex!). They'll know what he is up to.
I'd lay money on him either changing his entire submission or going mute for months and missing the court deadline to supply evidence of his wild assertions when he is asked for it by the judge. Oh and he might suddenly change his lawyer, to add to the fun.
Well that's what mine did....

ErinAoife · 15/01/2025 21:48

My ex was the same, he claimed that I was hiding some finances that I have an account in my home country. I closed all my accounts when I moved in the uk to be with him as I was no longer a resident in my home country. I just got back at him by asking my solicitor why his company shares were not listed in his financial statement and why his holiday trips abroad with his girlfriend were under food expenses. His food budget was bigger than mine despite being on his own and me having three kids living with me.
