Monjaro with a 27 BMI

Cataddicted · 15/01/2025 15:34

I've seen a few threads with people wanting to take Mounjaro with a BMI under 30. I thought I would tell you my experience.

I went on to the Numan site and put in my actual weight and took an inch of my height, my prescription was approved. Bad to do I know and not safe - something I don't recommend - I had done a ton of research by this point though and spoke to a few health advisors.

My reason taking it was I have a heart issue and I have put around 1.5 stone on since menopause that I cannot seem to shift as I cannot exercise much. I'm 48 and a BMI of 27.

On day 5 and I have been really paranoid... I have been worried I made the wrong decision and obviously once you've injected, there's no reversal. Day one and two I had extreme stomach ache.

I also found out after injecting that Numan don't check whether you are on other medications when they prescribe so it doesn't feel like a thorough test - it feels like many of these companies are a bit 'flexible' to get you as a customer, offering discounts and an easy test, knowing that once they have you, people are less likely to stop or shop around.

I am noticing an improvement in my habits - one great thing is I do not fancy alcohol at all. In fact, I am drinking so much water than anything.

Downside is I don't feel quite right - the indigestion isn't pleasant.

I don't think I want or need a second pen - in fact I am debating a second dose on the first pen. I am losing weight but I am conscious there may be negative affects if you have a lower BMI - ones I cannot find talked about anywhere but I am paranoid.

I'd love to know how any other lower/on the line BMI people are doing.

Might be worth moving this chat on the the wight loss chats where they talk about injections you might get more specific responses x

I definitely wouldn't start taking something like MJ if I was on heart medications without speaking to my GP first. You mention stomach pains, I have also had these and awful diarrhea since first injecting last sunday. I have a high BMI though.

butterfly0404 · 15/01/2025 15:51

I'm on MJ but started with a BMI of 34 and wouldn't have dreamt of falsifying my height to up my BMI. I also spoke with my GP and got their blessing and ensured my prescriber Med Express notified my GP.

I don't need to tell you you've been foolish but Numan are also irresponsible for not screening you more thoroughly.

mrsmilesmatheson · 15/01/2025 15:52

Surely you need to take some personal responsibility when purchasing these medications.

You've already lied to them about your personal information. Being 'flexible' with the truth.

MidnightPatrol · 15/01/2025 15:55

Well that became normalised quickly.

Everyone’s going to be on it at this rate, it needs far stricter monitoring.

PickleSarnie · 15/01/2025 15:55

I'm not sure you can pass any judgement on Numan and other providers given that you lied to get prescription medicines that you wouldn't have been prescribed had you not lied. They could implement a raft of additional checks but they do rely on people being truthful somewhat.

CameraGown · 15/01/2025 15:55

Why are you blaming Numan when you're the one at fault.

CameraGown · 15/01/2025 15:57

Also, Numan do ask:

  • You will disclose any prescription medications you are currently taking and agree to use only use one weight loss treatment at a time.

Oh God don't let a bunch of unqualified people - with clear bias - advise you about this @Cataddicted

Speak to your GP.

I dread to think how many people are pulling this kind of "tweaking my height and not mentioning my other conditions" shit to get the medication.

ShortSighted101 · 15/01/2025 15:58

My reason taking it was I have a heart issue

If the heart issue is made worse by being overweight then with a BMI of 27 you can probably take it completely legitimately.

However you should book an appointment with your GP and discuss it.

Beyondhelp10 · 15/01/2025 16:14

I started on it with a BMI of 29, I now have a BMI of 25 and I’m on 5mg dose with no issues

Sampler · 15/01/2025 16:15

OP did you not post on the weightloss board about starting MJ with a BMI of 26 the other day with a slightly different story ?

StepCatsmother · 15/01/2025 16:21

Mounjaro can affect the absorption of the other medications (it slows them down as a side effect of generally slowing your gastric functions down) so they are less effective - if you are on medication for your heart condition, I really think your GP should have been involved in this decision.

Objectrelations · 15/01/2025 19:35

I would absolutely take it if it was safe and my BMI is probably about 21. I have a constant battle with food noise it is hell.

Muminhamp · 15/01/2025 21:25

I am currently with Numan myself, and they do ask you about your medications when you answer medial questions. So I provided the list of my meds and they made sure there are no contraindications.

I would contact their clinical team and share your concerns, they have been wonderful with me.

CameraGown · 15/01/2025 15:55

Why are you blaming Numan when you're the one at fault.

Just to be clear, I am not blaming Numan at all and take full responsibility. I was also 100% honest about the other medications I was taking.

I took it also at a BMI OF 27 for a month to lose some weight. Just lied about my weight to get it. I do a load of dangerous sports (hit 50mph on my skis this week 🤣) and sometimes do a bit of coke, so for me personally the health risks are very small for these medications. On mounjaro I lost 10 pounds with manageable side affects (mostly feeling sick). Easiest diet I've ever done and plan to have the jab for a month once a year or so to keep my weight down.

I thought my post was clear that I am fully responsible for this. I sent photos and was very clear about what medication I was on

OP did you know it seems to help some heart problems e.g. heart failure? I would chat with the pharmacy and / or your GP.
