Vanish carpet and upholstery cleaner hasn't failed me yet. You can probably get it in the supermarket. Check it's okay for wool though, and test somewhere first.

Wet it. Leave to soak for a bit, then repeatedly wet and blot - don't scrub, just dab. When that doesn't get any more out repeat with a solution of bio washing powder (ideally for colours rather that whites, so it won't bleach the carpet). Then another round with plain water to get the washing powder out.

Cold water. Dr Beckmann carpet cleaner is ok but you’ll have to be careful not to scrub.

I don't know, I'd get what I could out with water then I'd try a carpet cleaner after testing it on a patch out of sight... Is there a way you can get sunlight directly on it? I think that generally works magic on stains on natural fibres (my experience is poo stains on cloth nappies and clothes but might work the same for blood?)

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/01/2025 14:16

Baby wipes.
They get any stains out.

SoupDragon · 14/01/2025 14:16

I'd give it a good brush whilst dry and hoover it before putting a wet cleaner on it to see if any comes off that way.

I'm currently a fan of a Dr Beckmann carpet cleaner in a white bottle with a blue brush on the top for all sorts of carpet stains.

Is this a big patch? have you murdered someone?

Tel12 · 14/01/2025 14:16

Cold water first. Damp then keep blotting.

That's what I was just thinking, waiting for the daily fail "Mumsnet helps murderer conceal their crime"

No one else concerned we're helping OP get away with a murder here 😂

Cold water first - cold water works wonders with dried blood. Then try anything above. I've had success with washing up liquid to remove the last bit of residue.

See how much you can remove with a stiff brush then hoover.

then wet (cold water only) give it a minute and dab with kitchen roll.

then wet (cold water only) really well and add bog standard table salt, leave it to absorb, brush up and repeat.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 14/01/2025 14:24

Yes, blood is one of the few stains you can use salt on
With dye stains there's a risk salt will set it, but with blood the salt helps break it down.

Riverswims · 14/01/2025 18:05

I’d just come on here to say contact lens saline spray will lift it out so you can dab it but everyone has daily lenses now I only know this coz heavy periods and bedroom carpet when younger
