Does anyone do the 1% club on the app? If you have not done today's can you screenshot the question please and tell me... Is their answer wrong? Wish I could reread the question to know for sure

I couldn't live with the type of man who has 17 pairs of identical red socks.

Could you live with the man in the question? He doesn't have 17 pairs of identical red socks, he has 17 red socks. An odd number of red socks.

Is that better or worse than having 17 pairs of them?

25percent · 14/01/2025 12:29

My answer would be 2. It says the lights are off but it doesn't say it's dark.

It's better but now I'm worried that the missing red sock has got into a whites wash so I still couldn't live with him!

SparklyNewMe · 14/01/2025 12:33

Surely, if the lights are off, he needs to take them all out, so 100%
And if lights were on, just 2 socks, both black?

rurbane · 14/01/2025 12:35

I didn't know there was an app for this game. Will download it now!

My socks are all the same colour but different lengths and thicknesses. My sock drawer:

.. .. .. .. ..
= = = = =
= = = = =
|| || || || ||

Blondiebeachbabe · 14/01/2025 11:29

Surely this wasn't the 1% question? Seems far too easy.

It was 20% today but I agree it was very easy

redskyatnight · 14/01/2025 12:36

25percent · 14/01/2025 12:29

My answer would be 2. It says the lights are off but it doesn't say it's dark.

Although we could equally say that the answer is 0 because he knows he has at least one pair of black socks without taking them out of the drawer.

unless his wife has got so fed up of him having so many socks that she's relocated some to the textiles recycling bin without telling him, not that I would ever do that or anything

P00hsticks · 14/01/2025 12:37

denhaag · 14/01/2025 11:34

I've never heard of the 1%, but I had an idea what it might be and then looked it up.
I was expecting to be bamboozled as I certainly don't regard myself as being in the top 1% of quizzers.

This was easy though.

This won't be the 1% question - the questions come in increasing order of difficulty, starting with one that they say 90% of the population should get right and going down unitl they get to the 1% question......

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 14/01/2025 12:39

25percent · 14/01/2025 12:29

My answer would be 2. It says the lights are off but it doesn't say it's dark.

If it was me it would be 2 because I don't care if my socks match.

If it was most other people they'd be put away in pairs so you'd know they matched.

Fink · 14/01/2025 12:42

Shetlands · 14/01/2025 12:30

It's better but now I'm worried that the missing red sock has got into a whites wash so I still couldn't live with him!

He also has an odd number of blue socks, an odd number of black socks, and an odd total number of socks. He needs a good clear out of the sock drawer!

mangoes1 · 14/01/2025 12:45

Sorry, brain not working. So he has an odd number of socks (53) and an odd number of red and black. Hmmm I honestly would not have got this

XWKD · 14/01/2025 12:46

He could just take out two black ones if it's daytime. The lights wouldn't need to be on.

mangoes1 · 14/01/2025 12:48

My answer would be all of them. I'm pretty sure that's correct.

SpringleDingle · 14/01/2025 12:48

40 socks

Dandylione · 14/01/2025 12:48

NewDayNewBeginnings · 14/01/2025 11:14

Thank you all... I now know I misread the question. I read he had 53 black... Not 53 in total. I'm the idiot. Thanks for putting me out of my misery

The answer would be the same though - what was your answer?

AyeYCan · 14/01/2025 12:50

Thank you all... I now know I misread the question. I read he had 53 black... Not 53 in total. I'm the idiot. Thanks for putting me out of my misery

I misread the question and thought it was just 'how many to be guaranteed a pair' and was very smug with my answer of 4, and couldn't work out why people were saying 40.... 😂

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 14/01/2025 12:50

40

But I'm more concerned that he's got odd numbers of socks

Melroses · 14/01/2025 12:59

MyBirthdayMonth · 14/01/2025 11:25

Why dosen't the silly man switch the light on?

If he'd paired the socks up when he put them away, he wouldn't have this dilemma anyway.

Having 53 socks is disturbing 😬

NewDayNewBeginnings · 14/01/2025 13:32

Because I misread I got 55 as the answer... I read 53 black 17 red 21 blue and 15 of another... So 53 black socks and 53 other colours.. So 55. And I was convinced I was right 😁

Trickedbyadoughnut · 14/01/2025 13:34

Surely the answer is LTB?

Sock freak.

Definitely - I'd LTB.

He doesn't need to take them all out if it's dark.

If he takes out 40 he is guaranteed that there will be at least two black socks in that 40.

If he takes out 39 he is only guaranteed that there will be one black sock.

If he takes out 38 he's not guaranteed to get any black socks at all. They might be all red and blue.

40 is the minimum number of socks he needs to take out to be certain of getting a black pair.

What I don't understand is how he knows how many socks he has of each colour if it's dark and the lights are off...

He keeps a Sock Spreadsheet and updates it every Laundry Day.
