I bought a counterfeit item on vinted, now the seller won't refund me

I bought a counterfeit item on vinted (it's limited edition, I have a real one of the product but in a different colour), I didn't realise until it arrived.

I've requested a refund but the seller wants it returning (which will cost me at least £4) so they can sell it on. AIBU to not want to return it and pay money out of my own pocket so that a fraudster can sell it again?

I've found vinted very good in these cases.

Full refund, no returning the item and they then remove the seller.

You can also report suspected fakes to vinted without buying them. Very good.

Seller will be removed from the site. Vinted are crafty as well because if you try to open up a new account even under a new email address it doesn't let you as it recognises the ip address.
It's not worth risking selling fake goods.

Fingers crossed!

Just keep on top of the process- actually read the messages you get & post back here if necessary to check your next steps. My mistake was assuming it was like eBay and then the sale automatically completing (although I don't think that is likely to happen here).

I’ve just had the same issue two days ago and I’m a bit worried. Basically I got this the Dway Dior slides from a Pro seller for £80, automatically it gave me peace of mind that whatever this person was selling was authentic as she also posted a receipt.

While many people might say why would you believe that a Dior sandal would be sold at such cheap price, I’ve previously bought authentic luxury items for a very cheap price in Vinted and like I said her being a pro seller and having over 100 reviews with more than 4.5 stars made me believe it was safe.

As soon as I got them I noticed that there were many things that were off. It was very lightweight and the outer soles of the shoes were literally different from the one she posted on her Vinted, then I checked the receipt where it all seemed fine until I noticed the lack of date and time and as someone that works in retail I’m very familiar with these sort of things so I quickly reached out with Dior UK and while they couldn’t give me much information as to whether the sandals were real they did point out the absence of tax ID, which is used to get refund. I also used vestaire collective and poizon to have the sandals checked and both results came negative.
When I told her this she didn’t even try to say they were authentic straight out she sort of admitted they were fake as she said that she wasn’t sure hence the lower price or how it was her uncle that got them from Ebay with the Receipt.

in the beginning I didn’t care much so I was let you know what let’s do a return but after giving it a thought I became pissed at her attempt to deceive me with a fake receipt so I told her that if she allowed me to keep the item and get a refund I wouldn’t rise the issue to Vinted. That’s when hell broke loose and she started telling me that it was my intention from the beginning to scam her, that I wouldn’t get it for free, and that I wouldn’t get away with it. Called me the worst person ever and how I should get a better job to get authentic sandals etc.. She even used laughing emojis to mock me.

Considering I was the one that actually got scammed I kept my cool all along. I took screenshots of the conversation and highlighted them on my report on how she was being disrespectful. I also mentioned that I used third-party authenticators twice to verify whether or not they were real and even the screenshot with my conversation with Dior UK, I’ve been waiting for a response since yesterday. I even wrote quite long paragraphs to make my points. The fact that she was so confident laughing in my face and telling me that I wouldn’t get away with it is what’s worrying me, as maybe in the past she’s gotten away with it. I have read some reviews where people actually accuse her of reusing the same receipts in all of her Uploads to make her items credible while selling counterfeit items over and over to other people.
