I watched Starmer's AI speech in it's entirety; seemed ok - a bit cap in hand to 'business' but what's a boy (PM) to do given AI is the new 'wave'. Hopefully it's not too connected to the Chancellor's visit to China in terms of AI business.
I'm intrigued by his suggestion that AI can fill potholes quicker as I've long suspected that it's the many layers of 'human admin' that currently hinders the repairs, not the actual people who fill the potholes. And then there would hardly be a need for this LA admin strata and the axe should fall.
I can also see the possibilities for using AI to develop individualised education and lesson plans for the vast number of pupils with SEND currently in mainstream education. It would certainly lift a load from teachers.
However, until we make use of our recent Lithium finds (in Cornwall) we're always going to be on the back foot with China.
